Bangkok--10 Nov--AIT University of Bor?s students begin fund raising drive for AITStudents from University of Bor?s, Sweden, have launched a fund raising drive for helping rebuild the flood ravaged Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). Recognizing that AIT is a partner Institute of the University of Bor?s, a group of students have launched a drive asking everyone to visit the AIT website (http://www.ait.asia/support.php) and contribute to AIT. The University has also highlighted this at their website under the headline “Students collect money for AIT.” Written by Mr. Jonas Sl?ttung, the article mentions the partnership between AIT and the University of Bor?s. The article extensively quotes the letter by the AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust to the AIT community where the AIT President describes 21 October 2011 as the “the darkest day in AITs history.” This was the day when AIT ordered evacuation following inundation. During two weeks, AIT fought the forces of nature but in the end it was impossible to save our beautiful campus from flooding, the article quotes from the President’s letter. Links between the University of Bor?s and AIT go much beyond academic exchange programs. The AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust has been the rector of University of Boras. The University of Bor?s is the coordinator of a EU international exchange project in South East Asia, where AIT is a partner. The University also runs a unique academic program in “Industrial Business Engineering”, which is one of only a few international engineering programs in Sweden. Students in this program spend one semester at AIT. AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust has appreciated this gesture of students of the University of Bor?s stating that he is deeply moved by this gesture. A major victim of the current flood crisis in Thailand, AIT remains completely inundated under almost 2-metres of flood water, more than two weeks after it was flooded on October 21.
