Bangkok--10 Nov--CIMB Thai Bank Dato’ Charon Wardini Mokhzani, Chief Executive Officer Designate, CIMB Investment Bank (center) presented the scholarships to the beaming recipients, witnessed by Hamidah Naziadin, Head of Group Corporate Resources, CIMB Group (far right). Good news is one of the five recipients of the 2011 CIMB Regional Scholarship is Thai citizen, Sooksun Popun-Ngarm who will be pursuing a Masters of Law (LL.M.) in Environmental Law & Policy at University College London, United Kingdom. The CIMB Regional Scholarship, which is only open to Southeast Asian citizens, is funded by CIMB Foundation, a non-profit organisation established by CIMB Group to fund the post graduate full scholarship covers all academic fees and also includes registration and examination fees, a book allowance, accommodation, airfare, travel documents and subsistence. In addition, the scholars are not bonded to CIMB Group upon completion of their studies, but are required to return and contribute back to the region. Dato’ Charon Wardini Mokhzani, Chief Executive Officer Designate, CIMB Investment Bank presented the scholarships to the beaming recipients, witnessed by Hamidah Naziadin, Head of Group Corporate Resources, CIMB Group. “The CIMB Regional Scholarship is part of the Group’s continuous commitment towards building Southeast Asia’s knowledge and capabilities, and we are pleased to extend these scholarships to students in the region to pursue full-time postgraduate degree programmes in the field of Environmental Studies and the Arts,” said Hamidah. “We have received tremendous response for the CIMB Regional Scholarship since we launched it last year. We appreciate that scholarships or funding for these selected fields of study are scarce, and hence, want to give students from across the region the chance to pursue their interest in these fields, while at the same time encourage them to contribute to the Southeast Asian community when they complete their studies,” Hamidah added. The CIMB Regional Scholarship, which is only open to Southeast Asian citizens, is funded by CIMB Foundation, a non-profit organisation established by CIMB Group to fund the Group’s corporate social responsibility and philanthropic activities. Under the scholarship, the scholars have the opportunity to further their studies in top graduate schools. Apart from exhibiting excellent academic achievements, the second group of CIMB Regional Scholarship recipients demonstrated strong potential in making a difference in their respective area of studies, as seen from their past and current community engagements. “They have shown great dedication and conviction in their fields of study and research, as well as having shared impressive personal statements on how they plan to contribute to the region after completing their studies,” Hamidah elaborated. The five recipients of the 2011 CIMB Regional Scholarship are: Chen Pelf NyokA Malaysian who is pursuing a Doctorate in Zoology at University Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia; Khaira IsmailA Malaysian who will be pursing a Doctorate in Ocean and Earth Science at University of Southampton, United Kingdom; Nur Muna MazlanA Malaysian who will be pursuing a Doctorate Research in Chemical Engineering at Bath University, United Kingdom; Sooksun Popun-NgarmA Thai national who will be pursuing a Masters of Law (LL.M.) in Environmental Law & Policy at University College London, United Kingdom; and Su Su MyatA Myanmarese who will be pursuing a Masters Degree in Environmental Engineering & Management at Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand.
