Bangkok--23 Nov--PR Solution Mrs. Kitika Chaisupatanakun, Management & Marketing Director of Thonglor Hospital, revealed that the flood situation could result in great impacts on the livelihood of these animals. Mrs. Kitika advised that “after gathering relevant reports and data collected by our veterinarian volunteers in various agencies, both in public and private sectors, we discovered a series of conditions that can affect those animals’ well-being. There are several cautionary points that all animal owners in affected areas should be aware of. First of all, they should take notice of the food and water that may contain water-borne diseases. Second of all, stress caused by relocation and readjustment of animals should equally be taken care of. From our clinical examinations of sick animals, we found that dangers from food and water are the most common ones, causing diseases such as diarrhea and food poisoning. If this is the case, the owner can use different minerals as daily intakes for their pets. If nausea was found, the owner could give clean water and avoid feeding any kind of food before taking their animal to the hospital. It should be noted that the animal-occupied areas be sanitized and the owner should take care of different types of waste disposals. In addition, they are advised to observe initial symptoms of their pets that may be caused by flood-borne diseases, especially in swamp areas. These symptoms can be identified by strong smell of animal urine, rash on the skin between the toes or symptoms similar to diarrhea. If these symptoms are found, the owner should take their pet to the hospital immediately.” Mrs. Kitika pointed out that, following recent flood crisis, there has been news on escaped poisonous animals, particularly snakes. “In such cases, the cat and dog owners can bring their pets to animal hospitals for early diagnoses. They can also take a photo of the snake found in order to identify the level of severity on affected animals. The owner can use water to clean the bitten area but try to avoid the wound, after which they should consult a veterinarian immediately. Stress may be another issue affecting animals that are kept in unfamiliar and small places. The pet owner is advised to play with their animal and try to make them feel at ease. This could at the same time reduce the owner’s stress. In addition to that, relocating an animal too often or keeping it in the same confinement for a long period of time could hamper the function of its excretory system. It is therefore important that those pets are made familiar with new locations, and the owner must avoid engaging with anything that could increase the level of stress.
