Bangkok--24 Nov--Siam Commercial Bank To forge ahead with full assistance for flood victims, Siam Commercial Bank has inaugurated a “Hand in Hand for Home Rehabilitation” project by joining hands with the Social Development and Welfare Department to employ people made jobless during flooding to help rehabilitate flood-hit communities as part of efforts to create new jobs and generate income for victims. SCB Executive Vice President and Head of the Mortgage Business Division Pikun Srimahunt said the project was initiated with the Bank's heartfelt intention to take care of mortgage loan clients affected directly by severe floods. The inundation has taken a heavy toll on various businesses, leaving many people jobless and devoid of income during this critical period. Because of this, the Bank wants to play a role in supporting comprehensive assistance for flood victims by collaborating with the Social Development and Welfare Department under the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to employ more than 2,000 jobless people living in flood evacuation centers in Bangkok and environs. They will work hand in hand with over 1,000 SCB employees to clean public roads in 500 housing estates once floodwaters recede. The Bank is ready to provide income and lunch to jobless people in flood evacuation centers participating in the project, she said. Mr. Pakorn Pantu, Director-General of the Social Development and Welfare Department, said the collaboration with SCB is part of continued efforts by the department to develop society and communities and improve the life of people suffering from natural disasters, including the recent deluge. “Many flood victims were forced to move to evacuation centers provided by the department. Some were made jobless or lack any income since the flooding brought production of several major supply chains to a halt. We believe the 'Hand in Hand for Home Rehabilitation' project will help create new jobs and generate income for people made jobless. It will provide them with moral support and an opportunity to earn money to help support their families,” he said. The “Hand in Hand for Home Rehabilitation” project was launched with an aim of accelerating rehabilitation efforts by the Bank in a comprehensive manner, ranging from cleaning of common areas in communities to provision of advice on insurance claims for flooding by Siam Commercial Samaggi Insurance PCL, which offers flood insurance coverage. In addition, the Bank has joined hands with its business partners, including the Home Builders Association, Sahapattanapibul Group, Index Living Mall, and Sino-Pacific Trading to introduce products and services related to home rehabilitation for clients on-site. SCB has already provided some assistance to flood-hit clients in provincial areas including Nakhon Sawan and Ayutthaya Provinces. For those affected by the deluge in Bangkok and its environs, such as Nonthaburi and Pathum Thani, the Bank is set to provide relief next, taking into account the decline in the water level of each area. With the inauguration of the project, the Bank is confident it will help with the rehabilitation of society and communities very soon.
