Bangkok--29 Nov--EU
The European Union Delegation issues the following statement in agreement with the EU Heads of Mission in Thailand:
The EU Delegation to Thailand is deeply concerned about the court decision to convict and imprison Mr. Ampon Tangnoppakul for twenty years for violating Article 112 of the Thai Criminal Code and the 2007 Computer Crime Act.
The EU would like to reiterate the importance it attaches to the rule of law, democracy and the respect for human rights.
The EU urges the Thai authorities to ensure that the rule of law is applied in a nondiscriminatory and proportional manner consistent with upholding basic human rights, including freedom of expression.
