Mead Johnson Nutrition Announces Major Capacity Expansionin Response to Fast-Growing Asia BusinessThailand operations and market to remain a global priority
Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN) announced today that due to the company’s fast-growing business in the Asia region, a major capacity expansion is required to meet future demands for its products. The company is going to build new manufacturing and R&D facilities in Singapore, representing a US$325 million investment — the largest in company history.
“We are looking to build on the strong market growth and demand for our brands in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia by expanding our manufacturing footprint and putting new technology and capacity in the heart of the region,” stated Mr. Blair Sailes, general manager of MJN Thailand. “The new Singapore spray dryer will complement our primary regional finishing plant located here in Thailand and will enable us to further increase production over time.”
To support the new facilities, a number of production, technical and management positions will be established in Singapore. Some of the required positions will be new hires and the remaining personnel will be relocating from other MJN locations, including Thailand.
Over the last four decades, Mead Johnson has built a strong business in Thailand, and the country remains a global priority for the company, which will continue to invest locally in operations, brands and people. The Singapore investment will not impact MJN’s Thailand commercial operations, R&D pilot plant, analytical laboratories or manufacturing facility. In fact, the company’s Chonburi plant will continue to play a key role in its regional supply chain activities, exporting products to a growing number of markets across Asia.
