New Zealand companies explore Thailand

Bangkok--20 Jan--Spark Communications Turning waste into energy and a system that automatically detects fires are just some of the unique New Zealand companies that are looking to Thailand after this month’s Board of Investment Fair in Bangkok. The New Zealand companies see Thailand as an exciting place to do business due to market size and position as a business hub in Asia. Thailand also offers a growing market in green technology, health information technology and high value manufacturing — all areas in which New Zealand companies excel at. In the Deloitte Technology Fast 500 Asia-Pacific Index, released December 1, New Zealand had the highest representation of companies per capita by far. An impressive 37 Kiwi firms made the index, which ranks the region’s fastest growing tech businesses according to revenue growth over the past three years. “New Zealand and Thailand recognise the importance of two-way foreign investment to enhance competitiveness and help businesses grow internationally,” says Benny Goodman, Investment Manager for New Zealand Trade and Enterprise. One New Zealand company currently exploring opportunities in Thailand is LanzaTech, a company founded in New Zealand, that has developed technologies that convert waste gases into fuels and chemicals enabling low-carbon fuel and chemical production without impacting food or land resources. Also visiting are Pertronic Industries Ltd who provide advanced fire detection capability including “FireMap” graphic display software and Aquaflow Bionomic Corporation, who remove algae from municipal waste water and natural waste waterways, and use it to create biofuels while restoring water quality. “New Zealand is committed to working together with Thailand to explore investment flows in both directions. We see opportunities to expand together here in Asia, as well as helping Thai companies to expand offshore — particularly in the food and energy space,” says Karen Campbell, New Zealand Trade Commissioner to Thailand. Thailand is New Zealand’s fastest growing export market in South East Asia. Last year exports from New Zealand to Thailand totalled NZD$729.54 million — an increase of nearly 25 percent.
