‘CNC Engraving Roll Machine, an invention work of West Coast, a company engaging in engineering services in SSI Group, was recognized as an Outstanding Invention Award on Engineering and Industry Category from the National Research Council. This invention shall be entitled to an honorable certificate and awarding money of 250,000 Baht including a silver medal. This machine can generate income 20 million Baht per year and can increase productivity on using of roll machine up to 5.6 times as well as can save cost for procurement and transportation for manufacturing in foreign countries.
Mr. Win Viriyaprapaikit, Group CEO and President of Sahaviriya Steel Industries Public Company Limited (SSI), revealed that the researcher team of West Coast Engineering Company Limited (WCE), an affiliated company of SSI Group which conducts engineering service business, has submitted the work called ‘CNC Engraving Roll Machine’ to request for the National Research Council : 2012 Invention Awards. After consideration, the National Research Council approved to grant the Outstanding Award on Engineering and Industry Category for such work to WCE, including an honorable certificate, awarding money of 250,000 Baht and a silver medal.
Office of National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT) has invited the inventors to propose their works which must be product, process, procedure, method, measure or system as well as technology that is outstanding and can be proven that it can be beneficial to the country with regards to science, technology and social science to request for the National Research Council: 2012 Invention Awards.
The categories of these awards comprise of science and technology; engineering and industry; agriculture and agricultural industry; medical science; chemical science and pharmacy and humanities. Those inventions shall be displayed and presented as the national research works by the National Research Council at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani on February 2012.
CNC Engraving Roll Machine is an invention to replace checker plate used in the hot rolled coil plant of SSI. Previously, engraving on roll machine surface cannot be done in and there is no any manufacturer of this product in Asia, hence all engraving works have to be made in the European countries, which make the costs high, both on operation and transportation. In addition, operation period for this work is 4 month each.
The budget used for inventing ‘CNC Engraving Roll Machine’ was approximately 4.65 million Baht and all materials used can be procured within the country. The Company can be greatly benefited from using this machine as it can generate income approximately 20 million Baht per year as well as can increase productivity from using roll machine up to 5.6 times, can solve the problem on stocking a very large volume of roll machine, including can save cost from procurement and transportation to foreign countries. Most of all, it can increase knowledge base, skill, capability on engineering design and construction for large machinery with high technology to the engineers and Thailand as a whole which is in line with the vision of SSI: “Innovate premium value steel products and services for customer; generate consistent profit and sustainable value for stakeholders”.
