Malaysian shopper beats millions to win Amazing Thailand Grand Sale competition simply by paying with Visa
Malaysian Chan Cheong Eu, 32, never thought he’d win anything from his recent trip to Thailand during the 2011 Amazing Thailand Grand Sale but win was just what he did as he was declared the winner of the Grand Prize of a “30-Day Experience Amazing Thailand Holiday.”
Hailing from Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Chan was among the millions of visitors from all around the world who thronged Thailand during this year’s Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, an annual shopping festival organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and supported by Visa.
Mr. Chan had earlier entered the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale promotion by using his Visa card to pay for some clothes in Siam Paragon Mall in Bangkok. He said that he opted to use his Visa card to pay for his purchases not only as it was a convenient and hassle-free way to pay, but also because it gave him double chances to win.
It turned out to be a wise decision when his entry was selected as the Grand Prize winner of the promotion covering transactions from 15 June to 15 August 2011, beating millions of other shoppers from around the world.
Speaking before leaving on his trip, Mr. Chan said: “This was so unexpected and I am delighted with my win. I have visited Thailand before but this was my first time visiting the country during the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale, which made the fact that I won the grand prize amongst millions of shoppers much more incredible.”

Besides the “30-Day Experience Amazing Thailand Holiday” grand prize which was open to overseas shoppers and the THB 1 million gift voucher for local shoppers, all local and international Visa cardholders also enjoyed up to 80 percent discounts and other privileges from more than 15,000 participating merchants in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Samui, Hadyai and Phuket during the annual shopping festival.
