Bangkok--5 Mar--AIT
A delegation from Tohoku University, comprising of Prof. Hideki Harada and Prof. Tatsuo Omura handed over a donation of 1 million Yen to the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) for repair and rehabilitation of the Institute campus. The donation was handed over to the AIT President, Prof. Said Irandoust recently (25 February 2012).
Prof. Harada and Prof Omura, both of whom have a long association with AIT, expressed their sympathy at the losses suffered by AIT. They added that Tohoku University had also suffered a major loss when three of its buildings were damaged following the earthquake in Japan. “We are sure that AIT shall remerge from the disaster very soon,” Prof. Harada added.
Prof. Irandoust thanked Tohoku University for its support, and remarked that a number of institutions from Japan had supported AIT both during and after the disaster. The delegation was shown around by the campus by Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Vice President for Resource Development. The delegates visited the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD), where they met Prof. Chettiyappan Visvanathan. They visited the AIT Library, which was earlier donated by the Government of Japan and which has suffered immense loss during the flood.
Among those who attended the meeting included Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director, Fundraising; and Ms. Sumana Shrestha, Program Officer, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO).
