Bangkok Bank provides ATM services to Phongsavanh Bank customers, who can now withdraw cash and check account balances at Bualuang ATM
Bangkok Bank, in collaboration with Laos’s Phongsavanh Bank, is the first and only bank in Thailand to provide financial services to Phongsavanh Bank ATM customers, who can now withdraw cash and check their account balances at any Bangkok Bank ATM in Thailand for no charge. The collaboration will help Laotian people who cross the border to shop in Thailand as well as to further expand Thailand-Laos cross-border trade.
Bangkok Bank Executive Vice President, Thanit Sirichote said Bangkok Bank is working with Phongsavanh Bank, the first 100% privately-owned commercial bank in Laos to provide services to Phongsavanh Bank ATM customers, who can now withdraw cash and check their account balances at any of Bangkok Bank’s 7,700 ATMs across Thailand. Bangkok Bank is the first and only Thai bank to work with a Laos bank to provide ATM services to the growing number of Laotian people crossing the border to shop in Thailand. The collaboration will be useful for students from Laos studying in Thailand, as they can withdraw cash from any Bangkok Bank ATM for their daily expenses.
“The Thai and Laos governments have been constantly supporting border trade. In 2010, up to 1.2 million Laotian people and foreigners working in Laos crossed the border to Thailand to buy commodities or other services, while the recent opening of the Thai-Laos Friendship Mekong River Bridge (Nakhonphanom—Khammoune) is expected to boost trade even further and push up demand for the Thai baht. Bangkok Bank, as the leading financial institution in Thailand, aims to support and respond to the government’s Thailand-Laos cross border trade support policies,” Mr. Thanit said.
Mr. Thanit added the bank has previously launched a new currency exchange service for the Kip, which is available at Bangkok Bank branches nationwide, including 30 currency exchange booths in border areas. This is a convenient service for Thais, Laotians and foreigners who need to exchange currency, while providing support for the continuous rise in trade growth between Thailand and Laos.
Phongsavanh Bank was founded by Od Phongsavanh. It was registered as a commercial bank and officially opened on 29 March 2007, with USD 10 million in registered capital. Its head office is in Vientiane and it provides services to corporate, SME and retail customers.
