Bangkok--9 Mar--Grayling (Thailand) FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company and a subsidiary of FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) and Safe Kids Thailand has organized a ‘PHOTOVOICE’ photography exhibition to promote pedestrian safety among children. More than 35 photos taken by students from Kingpetch School were chosen to be showcased in the exhibit which runs from 29 February to 9 March at Kingpetch School. PHOTOVOICE uses photography as a medium to promote social change and improve quality of life in the community. The exhibition highlights the perils of being a pedestrian on Thailand’s busy roads from a child’s point of view. To create the PHOTOVOICE exhibition, 36 students from Grade 5 were selected to participate in photography training and pedestrian safety education. After completing two training courses, the students visited various traffic locations in Bangkok, identifying road safety hazards and capturing educational messages through the use of their cameras. Each student submitted their best photos for display in the exhibition with summaries regarding the type of improvements necessary to ensure a safer community for children and pedestrians. “FedEx is pleased to be supporting the PHOTOVOICE project as part of the on-going Walk This Way program. It is an opportunity for children to express themselves and share their opinions about the environment using photography and words,” said David Carden, managing director, FedEx Express Thailand and Indochina. “Each picture gives a child’spoint of view on the issue of traffic and pedestrian safety. We believe that this PHOTOVOICE exhibition will do much to educate primary school students and the community about pedestrian safety.” “We are delighted that Safe Kids Thailand and FedEx are again supporting PHOTOVOICE in Thailand where there is such a strong need for traffic and pedestrian safety education”, said Adisak Plitponkarnpim, associate professor and director of CSIP at Safe Kids Thailand. “Looking at the results of the PHOTOVOICE project, I am confident that this program will be a great success in making the children more aware of road safety hazards as well as helping to implement improvements to the pedestrian safety environment in Thailand.” The PHOTOVOICE project was launched in Thailand in 2011 with a road safety exhibition at Wat Phraya Yang School.
