Volvo Trucks and Buses celebrates 20th anniversary in Thailand.

Bangkok--22 Mar--Volvo Group Volvo Trucks achieved billion baht worth of sales during the 2011 Volvo Group plans to invest 4 billion baht in Thailand for better service and customer care. Volvo Group (Thailand) Company Limited, the sole assembler and distributor of Volvo Trucks and Buses in Thailand celebrates the 20th Anniversary of its truck and bus business in Thailand, and the Group announces the success of exceeding sales target in 2011. The company delivered 1,027 Volvo trucks and 132 Volvo buses in Thailand and its neighboring countries. “Volvo Trucks’ December deliveries increased by 27% year-on-year to 11,882 trucks around the globe. For the full year 2011, deliveries rose by 53% to 115,346 trucks”, said Mr. Jacques Michel President of Volvo Group (Thailand). In Asia, deliveries realized 39% in December to 1,826 trucks. Meanwhile, in Russia deliveries increased by 90% to 878 trucks, Eastern Europe increased by 41% compared with December 2010. In Thailand, heavy-duty trucks market has high potential to grow as a result of the AEC scheme (ASEAN Economic Community) starting in 2015. The Thai market showed 7 % growth rate in average in 2011. Volvo Group (Thailand) delivered 523 Volvo trucks in 2011 which represent 5% market share in heavy-duty trucks segment. “We are very confident that Volvo Trucks would gain more market share in the future. Last year, Volvo Trucks were sold in Thailand and the locally assembled units also exported to Laos and Myanmar. “Thailand has been considered the assembly bases for the region, our products are also exported to Laos, Myanmar, and Cambodia. We look forward to the implementation of the AEC scheme, which would push demands in heavy-duty truck sector to grow more rapidly.” said Mr. Jacques Michel. “This is because the scheme is concentrating on road transportation as a result of the borderless condition of the ASEAN common market scheme,” added Mr. Jacques Michel. Volvo Buses is the leader of Coach and Intercity buses in Thailand. In 2012, Volvo Group is going to launch a new bus model to the market. The new product promises a more enjoyable driving environment for the drivers. Meanwhile the new engine technology ensures better fuel efficiency to satisfy the demands of the transport companies. “Volvo Group’s answer to the growing market demand is to further enhance investment in Thailand to a total of 4 billion baht in the coming 2 years.” confirmed Mr. Jacques Michel. “To serve our Thai customers even better, we are currently investing 2 billion baht in Thailand in expanding 9 more Volvo owned dealerships from 6 to 15 branches as well as another 2 billion baht in TSA Factory to accompany the economic growth in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
