Bangkok--23 Mar--AirAsia
AirAsia strengthens its Chiang Mai flight base by becoming the first and only airline to offer daily flights from ‘Chiang Mai-Macau’. New Airbus A320s will now connect Chiang Mai to Asia’s most popular tourist destination to penetrate the expansive Chinese market and enhance the Thai economy. A special 1,490 THB per flight promotion heralds the addition.
Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, remarked that AirAsia’s Chiang Mai hub has grown steadily with the support of passengers. The airline’s intent is to expand its network of destinations to be the most inclusive and convenient. This year, AirAsia plans to increase connections to the Chinese market, being the world’s largest market with an appreciation of cost-effective travel, matching with the thrust of the airline. AirAsia is confident it will draw more travelers to Thailand and stimulate its economy.
Mr. Tassapon stated that “AirAsia is ready to launch and take bookings for the ‘Chiang Mai-Macau’ route, the first to do so. The highlights of connecting these two tourism cities will be that Chiang Mai residents will be able to conveniently travel to Macau, a shopper’s city that boasts a mix of Chinese and Portuguese culture. Travelers will also be able to connect to Hong Kong, only an hour away by ferry. The route truly satisfies a myriad of demands”.
Mr. Tassapon added that “the launching of the ‘Chiang Mai-Macau’ route underlines AirAsia’s determination to attract customers in the Chinese market, the most populated and rapidly growing market in the world. China provides a key opportunity to draw travelers to Thailand, whether individually or in group tours. By utilizing the Chiang Mai Air Base instead of Bangkok, the new travelers and the generated revenue will be better dispersed throughout the nation”.
During the introductory period of the ‘Chiang Mai-Macau’ route, AirAsia will be enticing travelers with a 1,490 THB all-in-fares per way promotion open for booking from 22-25 March, 2012 for travels starting with the inaugural flight on 22 May 2012 until 31 January, 2013. Presently, the Chiang Mai Air Base operates 8 daily flights to Bangkok, 2 to Phuket, 1 to Hat Yai, 3 weekly flights to Ubon Ratchathani and has now added 1 daily flight between Chiang Mai and Macau to begin on 22 May, 2012.
