Bangkok--30 Mar--Siam Hotels & Resorts
Siam Hotels & Resorts is to dim its lights for an hour as part of its participation in Earth Hour, a global Worldwide Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) climate change initiative. The event is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. In 2012 they invite everyone to do more than switch off, they want us to dare the world to save the planet. “I Will If You Will” is a simple promise and a challenge. The organisation wants to inspire people to take action and make a meaningful impact in the world we live in On March 31, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m., the Siam City Hotel in Bangkok and Siam Bayshore Resort and Siam Bayview hotels in Pattaya will turn off their lights in most back-of-the-house areas and dim the lights in public areas, restaurants and hotel exteriors. Guests will also be encouraged to participate by turning off the lights in their room.
We estimates that for each hour of shutting off or dimming lights per hotel, up to 60 megawatts of electricity can be saved, which is equivalent to providing the lighting energy requirements of a city of 500,000 residents for 24 hours. According to Marisa Sukosol Nunbhakdi, executive vice president of Siam Hotels & Resorts: “The Siam group is fully committed to pursuing initiatives that alleviate the effects of climate change, not only through Earth Hour but also with other ongoing green initiatives such as building greener hotels, moving towards 100 percent eco-friendly practices and greening our supply chain”.
In addition to its participation in Earth Hour, each Siam hotel and resort is committed to “Going Green” and finding ways to reduce wastage, eradicate practices that damage the environment, encouraging guests to do their part and the promotion of environmental awareness in the community. Examples of green initiatives deployed by the hotels include using energy-saving light bulbs and biodegradable cleaning materials, growing and purchasing local produce, offices paper-recycling scheme and local tree planting.
