Shama Sukhumvit Bangkok, the boutique serviced apartment managed by ONYX Hospitality Group, has committed to hosting a Farmers’ Market on the third Sunday of each month at its property situated right in the heart of Bangkok.
According to one of ONYX’s Corporate Social Responsibility policies, properties are to put in place initiatives that help raise awareness and engage neighbouring communities. With poverty alleviation through stimulating entrepreneurship being Shama’s CSR focus, ONYX has carefully designed some key CSR activities that support the brand’s focus and engage its guests and residents.
“The Farmers’ Market stemmed from the idea of connecting people in urban and rural areas with the aim of supporting one another. The market will offer high quality organic produce to the city, fulfilling demand, promoting market opportunities to help sustain the organic farming community, and at the same time promoting a healthy lifestyle. By stimulating entrepreneurship, we will be directly contributing to poverty alleviation in a way which is more sustainable than just donating money.” Lisa Thomas, Director, Corporate Social Responsibilities said.
Shama Sukhumvit supports these Thai Green Entrepreneurs by providing them with space and the opportunity to sell their fresh organic produce directly to end customers, rather than selling to retailers. On the day of the market, green products including fresh fruit and vegetables, a variety of organic produce and fresh Thai herbs will be available for sale at reasonable prices.
“It is a pleasure to work together with Raithong Organics Farm, family owned and operated rice farm and founder of Creative Farming Network in Sisaket, who has helped us organise this event. It was initially launched in April 2012 and due to its success, we have decided to hold it on the 3rd Sunday of every month, starting on Sunday 17 June 2012, on the Ground Floor of Shama Sukhumvit from 09:00 to 14:00. We have also organised for there to be cooking demonstrations held by renowned Chef from Amari — our sister-brand.” Sukamal Mondal, General Manager of Shama Sukhumvit added.
