The twenty-first LIVESTOCK SUMMIT trade fair, Europe’s leading event for professionals in
the livestock industry, will bring together 1,300 exhibitors and more than 2,000 animals and seventy different types of breed. The 2012 trade fair will take place from October 3 to 5 in the heart of the French Massif Central, Europe’s largest region for breeding beef cattle. The fair is expected to attract nearly 80,000 visitors (including 3,500 from overseas), with a busy programme of conferences, business meetings, professional events and demonstrations on the latest technology awaiting guests at the Parc des Expositions in the Grande Halle d’Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand (France).
Outstanding showcase of French livestock
Two thousand animals will be on show at the LIVESTOCK SUMMIT to highlight the best of French livestock, including 750 beef cattle (Hall 3), 550 dairy cattle (Hall 2), 400 sheep (Hall 5) and 300 draught and saddle horses (Hall 4). Two national competitions — the first ever — will put the focus on cattle:
the beef cattle competition will be represented by 400 Blondes d’Aquitaine, whilst 150 of the celebrated Abondance breed from the French Alps will take part in the dairy competition.
The presence of seventy different types of breed at the fair reflects the quality and diversity of what France has to offer in terms of live cattle and beef. It also demonstrates France’s capacity to meet the needs of foreign countries in every segment of the beef livestock market (semen, embryos, breeding animals, animals for slaughter, fresh and frozen meat, etc.). With 1,300 exhibitors expected for the twenty-first fair, the LIVESTOCK SUMMIT is the ideal opportunity for meeting all the leading practitioners in the French livestock industry under one roof. Spread over 170,000 m?, exhibitors will present livestock equipment, different types of animal feed, veterinary products, milking equipment, agricultural machinery, etc.
International business hub
The international dimension of the LIVESTOCK SUMMIT grows a little more pronounced with each successive edition: 160 overseas exhibitors from twenty different countries are expected to make the trip in 2012, partly to meet their existing customers and partly to make new contacts amongst French breeders. In terms of visitors to the fair, 3,500 foreigners from sixty different countries are expected. In 2011 the trade fair welcomed, inter alios, twenty-two visitors from China, eight from Mongolia, twenty-three from Kazakhstan, and two each from Malaysia and Australia. The International Club, hosted by ADEPTA (Association for the Development of International Trade in Agricultural Products and Techniques), is dedicated to offering guidance to overseas visitors to the fair and to demonstrating what France has to offer in terms of livestock, expertise and genetics. In addition, numerous events will be organised for foreign delegates:
- an international livestock soir?e will be organised in partnership with France G?n?tique Elevage, where the entire range of French cattle and sheep will be presented,
- there will be approximately twenty visits to view livestock and see agro-industrial technical sites in the company of technicians and interpreters,
- there will be numerous talks with an international aspect.
Finally, the LIVESTOCK SUMMIT will also be the opportunity for livestock professionals to discuss and learn more about the topics that are making the news in the agricultural world. Various professional activities and conferences will take place over the three days.
