DIP continues with the crackdown on IP infringement over 2.9 million items in the first eight months of 2025, with exceeding 1 billion baht.

The Department of Intellectual Property (DIP), in collaboration with partner agencies, has intensified operations to suppress intellectual property infringement in both physical and online markets.

The goal is to build a strong IP ecosystem that supports trade and investment, while promoting Thai entrepreneurs in line with the "Quick Big Win" policy of Commerce Minister Suphajee Suthumpun. The campaign aims to build consumer confidence and protect the public from the dangers posed by counterfeit and substandard products.

Mrs.Auramon Supthaweethum, director -general of the Department of Intellectual Property said that the department, in cooperation with the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), the Royal Thai Police, and private rights holders, has been implementing an urgent action plan to combat IP infringement, especially in tourist hotspots, key commercial areas, and warehouses.

Major operations were carried out at shopping centers in Pathumwan and warehouses in Samut Sakhon, lthe seizure of counterfeit luxury goods such as watches, sunglasses, clothing, and jewelry, both offline and online sales. These efforts help protect the rights of IP owners, consumers from unsafe and deceptive products, and prevent damage to the economy while enhancing Thailand's image and strengthening investor confidence on the country's IP protection system.

Mrs. Auramon added that during the first eight months of 2025 (January-August), law enforcement agencies handled a total of 863 cases, seizing 2,969,093 counterfeit items worth over 1 billion baht. The breakdown included the Royal Thai Police with 628 cases of 1,652,753 items , the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) with 6 cases of 922,567 items, and the Customs Department with 229 cases, of 393,773 items.

Comparing with the same period in 2024, the seizing of counterfeit items were 934 cases, with 2,335,861 items and estimated damages of 388 million bah. The number of cases dropped by 7.6%, while the quantity of seized goods increased by 27.11%.

This reflects DIP's target on tackling IP infringement on major distributors and storage facilities. The majority of seized goods were items posing risks to health and safety, such as food, cosmetics, engine oil, auto parts, and counterfeit brandname products including watches, jewelry, and clothing.

Mrs Auramon said DIP has implemented a strict integrated approach with relevant agencies in Bangkok and nationwide, particularly on high-risk markets listed in "Notorious Markets" report. by he United States Trade Representative's (USTR).

In addition to on-ground suppression, the DIP has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with 44 government and private sector partners to protect IP on the Internet. The MOU promoted surveillance and prevention of counterfeit goods on e-commerce platforms such as Lazada, Shopee, TikTok Shop, Nex Gen Commerce, and NocNoc, using a "Notice and Takedown" mechanism.

This mechanism allows platforms to promptly remove listings reported as IP-infringing. So far, there were 2,361 products with successfully taken down. DIP also plans to expand cooperation with additional platforms to strengthen online IP protection.

Mrs. Auramon emphasized that cooperation among government agencies, rights holders, and the public is an important key to tackling IP infringement. Public awareness and a shared commitment to "Don't buy, Don't use, and Don't support counterfeit goods" in order to respect for intellectual property creators ,promote creative industries, and build a fair ,competitive, and innovation-driven business environment.

Such actions also help strengthen Thai entrepreneurs amid the current global trade challenges.
