Thai SMEs New Opportunity Gateways Project Offers 80% Financial Support and Comprehensive Business Matching Opportunities to Help Thai Entrepreneurs Expand into the Chinese Market
The Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP), in collaboration with Prince of Songkla University (PSU) and international partners Alibaba Group and Digilink (Thailand) Co., Ltd., invites Thai small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to apply for the "Thai SMEs New Opportunity Gateways: Opening New Opportunities to Connect Thai SMEs with Global Markets" project.

The initiative aims to build a bridge between Thai businesses and the People's Republic of China, with a particular focus on helping Thai SMEs enter the market in Chongqing, one of the fastest-growing strategic municipalities in inland China.
While many Thai exporters are familiar with established coastal markets such as Guangzhou and Shanghai, Chongqing represents a promising "Blue Ocean" marketa relatively untapped market offering substantial growth potential for Thai products and businesses.
Chongqing: A Strategic Market with Significant Growth Potential
Dr. Panita Chinnawat, Deputy Director of OSMEP and Acting Director of the Office, highlighted the project's strategic direction and the business opportunities available in Chongqing.
She stated:
"The Thai SMEs New Opportunity Gateways project has been designed to provide practical support to Thai SMEs seeking to expand into international markets. Through government financial support and professional business mentoring, participating entrepreneurs will receive guidance throughout their market expansion journey.
"Chongqing is a hidden gem that many Thai SMEs may not yet be familiar with. However, the city offers significant economic strengths and promising trade opportunities across several sectors."
Key opportunities in Chongqing include:
1. A Major Metropolitan Market with More Than 30 Million Residents
Chongqing is one of China's four municipalities directly administered by the central government. With its vast population and geographical scale, the city offers substantial and sustained consumer demand for everyday products, food, and health-related products.
2. A Growing Silver Economy
Chongqing is an important center for China's Silver Economy in the country's inland region. Its growing elderly population includes consumers with savings and purchasing power who are willing to invest in healthcare, quality of life, and healthy ageing.
This creates promising opportunities for Thai products and services, including dietary supplements, herbal teas, traditional Thai medicine, spa services, and products designed to support joint and muscle health.
3. A Major Logistics Hub Connecting Western China to Global Markets
Chongqing serves as a key logistics and trade hub along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor (ILSTC), connecting western China with ASEAN, Central Asia, and Europe through an extensive network of railways and Yangtze River ports.
This strategic connectivity provides Thai SMEs with more convenient and potentially cost-effective access to inland Chinese markets.
OSMEP encourages Thai entrepreneurs to explore these emerging opportunities and expand their businesses into this promising market, paving the way for sustainable international growth.
Target Product and Business Categories
The project focuses on Thai products and services with strong potential in the Chongqing market, particularly:
- Health and Wellness: Dietary supplements, functional foods, health beverages, Thai herbal products, herbal teas, and natural products.

- Silver Economy: Products and services supporting elderly consumers, including wellness, rehabilitation, physical recovery, and quality-of-life solutions.
- Services and Lifestyle: Healthcare and wellness tourism, cultural products, creative design, Thai handicrafts, and export-quality lifestyle products.
Targeted Pre-Matching: Connecting SMEs with the Right Business Partners

3. Guaranteed Business Matching Opportunities
Each participating business will receive at least five scheduled business matching appointments with potential Chinese buyers and business partners.
