Mr. Kyoichi Tanada, President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd. has announced the car sales performance of 2012 and the trend of the automotive industry in 2013 at 2013 Toyota Annual Press Conference held on January 21st, 2013 at Ballroom, The Okura Prestige Hotel, Bangkok.
Mr. Tanada said “Total domestic car sales in 2012 set a new highest record in Thailand automotive industry with a total of 1,436,335 units. The increasing demand for domestic automobile sales has been powered by an economic growth due to spurring greater domestic consumption, a strong demand in the automobile market boosted by government’s first car scheme, a backlog of orders led by the 2011 natural disasters, including a vehicle production capacity expansion to serve the soaring demand.

For Toyota sales performance, we sold 516,086 units, a 77.9% rise. Passenger car sales totaled at 224,816 units, a raise by 62.8%. Commercial vehicles also saw a 91.7% increase in sales totaling at 291,270 units and so did 1-ton pickups (including PPV) which are a part of the commercial vehicles with its sales grew to 269,722 units, or a 99.8% growth.

- Passenger Cars 224,816 units 62.8% increase 33.4% market share
- Commercial Vehicles 291,270 units 91.7% increase 38.1% market share
- 1-ton Pickups (including PPV) 269,722 units 99.8% increase 40.5% market share
- Pure Pickups 233,393 units 91.5% increase 39.4% market share
Toyota’s CBU export sales for 2012 surged to 405,892 units, a 61.8% rise valued at 179,572 million baht. OEM part export sales totaled at 63,023 million baht. The value of these exports has been contributed to the national income at 242,595 million baht.”
Regarding the trend of the automotive industry in 2013, Mr. Tanada stated “Thus the 2013 total domestic market is projected at more than 1.2 million units or around 10% decrease compared to the previous year.

- Passenger Cars 542,300 units 19.4% decrease
- Commercial Vehicles 707,700 units 7.2% decrease
- 1-ton Pickups (including PPV) 631,900 units 5.2% decrease
- Pure Pickups 567,100 units 4.3% decrease
As for Toyota, our domestic sales target for 2013 is set at 500,000 units, comprising 200,000 passenger cars or 11.0% decrease. Rise up by 3.0% or 300,000 units are commercial vehicles in which 285,000 units or 5.6% increase is of 1-ton pickups that are a part of the commercial vehicle sales.”

- Passenger Cars 200,000 units down 11.0% 36.9% market share
- Commercial Vehicles 300,000 units up 3.0% 42.4% market share
- 1-ton Pickups (including PPV) 285,000 units up 5.6% 45.1% market share
- Pure Pickups 250,000 units up 7.1% 44.1% market share
“For export market, we target to export CBU around 412,000 units, equivalent to
168,000 million baht, and OEM part export valued at 70,000 million baht, the total numbers of export value is estimated to 238,000 million baht.”
Mr. Tanada added “This year is the beginning of our path for the next 50 years of Toyota. Our initiative includes the project entitled “Mobility of Happiness”, we aims at increasing happiness of Thai society. Furthermore, we’ve planned to serve rapidly growing demand in the domestic market. Our first pace was debuted at the beginning of this year through the restart of Toyota Auto Works (TAW), which for the first time introduced locally built “HIACE COMMUTER” production line. It is furthermore strengthened by the progress of our second Gateway plant which will be ready to start the production line within this third quarter of this year. With regard to automotive innovation, There are new VIOS, ECO Car and Toyota Smart G-Book 3D. The latest one is highlighted with the advanced features along with more accuracy. As a part of our efforts to serve the sales and customer growth, we target to expand Toyota showrooms from currently
357 showrooms to 400 showrooms as well as Toyota Sure showrooms from 85 showrooms to
100 showrooms in this year. ”

It is the concept to share Toyota’s best practice or so-called “TPS” to the community with an aim to reduce costs and improve business performance for the sustainable development of the society.
