Thai bourse announces winners of 2012 Young Financial Star

Bangkok--28 Jan--SET The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), together with Muang Thai Life Assurance Co., Ltd., PTT pcl, Kasikornbank pcl, and other partners in the capital market, announces the winners of "Young Financial Star Competition 2012", with a combined THB 4 million in awards for three young financiers and a group of students. The competition, held for ten consecutive years now, aims to choose champion new young financiers from Thai university students. This year, the contest attracted 5,688 university students in 90 institutions nationwide, a record number of candidates. "YFS is one of SET’s social activities under the concept ‘Matching Your Opportunity for Growth.’ The contest’s goal is to empower university students to increase their financial and investment management expertise, exercised with social responsibility, paving the way for them to be investment professionals or quality prudent investors. We are delighted that YFS 2012 could produce personnel ready to be capital market professionals, or quality investors, as 207 persons passed the Securities Investment Consultant course, representing 67 percent of the 348 YFS candidates passing the first round. Also, 47 persons passed the final round, and were awarded training and testing for the Certified Investment and Securities Analyst course (CISA) and Certified Financial Planner (CFP) courses for financial advisors,” said SET President Charamporn Jotikasthira. The four winners are 1. Ponkong Panyangarm from Thammasat University, as SET Star Investment Planner; 2. Anurak Suwanichkul from Chulalongkorn University, as K-Expert Star; 3. Teerachart Phuthamrongwat from Chulalongkorn University, as Muang Thai Star Insurance Planner; and 4. A student group, consisting of Boonmaytar Nannar, Passokorn Triwatcharikorn, Tadsika Tharanachetda, and Tanut Jimeesik as the PTT CSR Star Team. In addition to the four alliance partners mentioned above, the contest was supported by the Association of Securities Companies, Thai Financial Planner Association, and The Capital Market Development Fund Foundation. YFS 2012 ran from October 2012 to January 2013, enabling youth to learn from intensive and challenging propositions in finance and investment. The final round was held on January 27 to determine the award recipients. The winners and first runner-ups gained scholarships for financial study trips domestically and overseas, including training and tests from the joint sponsors worth a combined THB 4 million.
