On 11 February 2013, Mr. Kiminori Iwama, Economic Minister of Embassy of Japan in Thailand, Police Major General Lattasanya Piansomparn, Advisor to Minister of Energy, presided as chairmen together with Mr. Wichit Chatphaisit, Governor of Rayong Province, Mr. Pailin Chuchottaworn, President & CEO, PTT Public Company Limited, Mr. Taketsugu Fujiwara, President, Asahi Kasei Corporation and Mr. Yuji Kobayashi, President, Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation over the Grand Opening Ceremony of PTT Asahi Chemical Company Limited (PTTAC) at Hemaraj Eastern Industrial Estate (Map Ta Phut), Rayong. This ceremony marked the beginning of the commercial operation of the company.
PTT Asahi Chemical Company Limited (PTTAC) was established in August 2006. It is the joint venture of PTT Public Company Limited, Thai national energy company, Asahi Kasei Chemicals Corporation, the world’s leading petrochemical producer from Japan and Marubeni Corporation, the leading trading company from Japan with shareholding ratio of 48.5%, 48.5% and 3% respectively. PTTAC is operating Thailand’s first commercial plants using propane as direct feedstock from PTT Gas Separation Plant to produce 200,000 tons of Acrylonitrile (AN), a raw material for plastic and acrylic fiber, 70,000 Tons of Methyl Methacrylate (MMA), a raw material for Poly Methyl Methacrylate (PMMA), and 160,000 Tons per year of Ammonium Sulfate (AMS), a raw material for fertilizer.
Police Major General Lattasanya expressed that “I believe that such collaboration between Thailand and Japan has brought in combining strength in technology, know-how and natural resources especially the natural gas to develop the petrochemical industry to accommodate the current high rising demand in energy. This occasion will mark the beginning of cooperation development to efficiently use the technology and natural resources for highest benefits in the future. The commercial operation of PTTAC will reduce import of AN, MMA used as raw materials and increase export of the products to augment the country’s overall export income.”
PTTAC determines to adopt effectiveness of quality, safety, occupational health and environment concerned as a business conduct code along with social responsibility to Thai society. We along with adjacent communities will work closely to promote and elevate quality of life of people in Rayong in all aspect of culture, health and career as well as preserve environment and prioritize youth’s education. Together, we can create a sound foundation for a sustainable Rayong and the nation.
