Siam Makro has announced it will slash energy consumption for nine days from Friday April 5 - 14 in response to requests from government energy agencies.
The move follows requests from the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) and the Electricity Generation Authority of Thailand (EGAT).
The company will begin a programme of energy conservation initiatives in an effort to limit its consumption of power by decreasing its lighting by 50 percent in its stores nationwide between 6.00 -8.00 am and 8.00 -10.00 pm on Friday, 5 April 2013. It will also introduce a variety of energy economy measures from April 5-14 including reducing the power consumption of the water chilling system in the stores airconditioning unitsand slightly increasing the freezer temperature in non-peak periods that will not affect thecomfort of members’ shopping. This programme will be applied in every Makro and Makro foodservices stores. The company expects the conservation measures to save around 580,000 kwhof power during the nine days.
“All of these initiatives have been carefully thought through to ensure there is no danger to our customers and staff, while chilled and frozen foods will remain in perfect condition. So while we are cutting back on lighting we are also able to safely cut back on the power consumption of our air conditioning and food storage units.,” said Khun Pariyanuch Na Taguatung, Marketing Director of Siam Makro PCL.

So when the Ministry of Energy and EGAT asked for our support, we were pleased and willing to help. Not only does it highlight an issue we have been addressing for some time, but we can also play our part to help our nation”
Khun Pariyanuch said notices would be posted in all stores explaining the reasons of this measure, and asking for staff cooperation and support at a time of need.
