United Nations Deputy Secretary-General visits Bangkok

Bangkok--26 Apr--UN ESCAP Mr. Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations will arrive in Thailand on Sunday 28 April to participate in the 69th Commission Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). As part of his visit to Thailand, Mr. Eliasson will participate in twofield visits. The first will be to the Klong Bang Bua urban resettlementproject in Bangkok, and the second will be to the Historic City of Ayutthaya World Heritage Site. Both visits are open to media attendance. Site Visit to the Klong Bang Bua urban resettlement project in Bangkok When: Sunday 28 April 10:45 — 11:45 hours Where: Klong Bang Bua urban resettlement project, Bangkok Who: Mr. Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Under Secretary-General of the United Nationsand Executive Secretary of ESCAP Mr. Eliasson will be briefed on the urban resettlement programme,implemented by the Community Organizations Development Institute (CODI), which assists poor communities to develop their upgrading plans in close collaboration with their local governments, professionals, universities and NGOs. Site Visit to Historic City of Ayutthaya World Heritage Site When: Sunday 28 April 12:30 - 13:00 hours Where: Office of Historic City of Ayutthaya World Heritage Site Who: Mr. Jan Eliasson, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, Under Secretary-General of the United Nationsand Executive Secretary of ESCAP Mr. Tim Curtis, Chief of Culture Unit, United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Bangkok Mr. Eliasson will be briefed on Historic City of Ayutthaya World Heritage Site, the 2011 flood in Thailand and the Project “Development of a Flood Risk Mitigation Plan for Ayutthaya World Heritage Site”.
