Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU) celebrated its 45-year anniversary. Over 100,000 undergraduates have gone into all types of industry, business and services. The university plans to have its six units to drive its image as the "Progressive University" with sustainability, focusing on "skill development" together with "character" for students. This could be a new driver for the world of digital learning.
Aside from 12 faculties, DPU strives to become the Progressive University through the following six colleges and centers.
1. China-ASEAN International College (CAIC): There is collaboration between DPU and Renmin University of China, a top-three university in China, in Social Science and master and doctoral programs in Business Administration are also provided. While in 2010, DPU has joined academic collaboration with Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) to establish the Kunming-Dhurakij China International College (KDCIC) offering bachelor's programs in international business and tourism and hotel management.
2. Waterworks College: This is also academic collaboration between DPU, the Metropolitan Waterworks Authority (Thailand), the Provincial Waterworks Authority, the Eastern Water Resources Development and Management Public Company Limited, the Department of Local Administration and the Department of Skill Development. In the long term, water resources, particularly waterworks operations, will play a more important role in people’s quality of life, with growing cities in neighboring countries, increasing population and demand for clean water and good living quality that meets international standards. Four-year bachelor's programs in Political Science, majoring in public and private administration, Industrial Technology, majoring in waterworks systems, and certificate programs are provided. The certificate programs put emphasis on producing high-quality waterworks technicians with expertise in maintenance of waterworks supply and production systems and upgrading workers with no certificates.
3. Research Center: Established in 1985, the Research Center is in response to research activities which are one of the 4 core pillars of an academic institute. The center focuses on academic research, applied researched and institutional research in order to use the research works for decision making and problem solving especially in business environment. In addition to over 300 pieces of research have been published, the center also supports research information to several broadcast programs.
4. Center for Preparation into the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC): The center provides knowledge and prepares people for the AEC through research, panel discussions, and in-house and off-site seminars.
5. Center for Peaceful Method and Governance for Students: The center manages and settles disputes in the university by employing positive methods, assisting students in coping efficiently with problematic situations through peaceful methods and arbitration.
6. Friendly Instructor Program: Instructors are second for students after parents. The program was established to provide advice to and take care of students from the provinces. Advice on self adjustment, learning and other difficulties is given by instructors from faculties. One instructor takes care of about 30 students.
DPU has modernized its academic courses in order to make its students ready and well-equipped for local and overseas markets amid rapid changes. While the university continues to seek more collaboration with communities, DPU established DPU international colleges or DPUIC and China-ASEAN International College (CAIC). DPU stresses the importance of research and positive conceptual thinking and attitudes to enhance student competitiveness in labour markets. The university's Research Center, the Center for Peaceful Methods and Governance for Students, and the Friendly Instructor Program emphasize the university's vision to become the Progressive University, which prepares students to be well-equipped and be able to compete internationally.
Associate Professor Dr. Varakorn Samakoses, Rector of DPU said "given the rapidly-changing world in communication, borderless economy, knowledge evolution all of these developments have come with resources issues. We need to keep pace with changes. About Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU)
Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU) was founded as "Dhurakij Pundit School" by Dr.Sawai Sudhipitak and Mr.Sanan Ketudat on 1st May 1968. The school was formally opened on 30th May 1968. The founders set this date as the date of establishment. On 24th October 1984, the University Affairs Ministry (its name at that time) gave the school an approval to become "Dhurakij Pundit University."
Presently, Dhurakij Pundit University or DPU opens bachelor, master and doctoral programs in Thai, English and Chinese languages both at regular and evening hours. Such programs are instructed by a number of distinguished Thai and foreign instructors. The Guarantee of Excellent Domestic Education Quality award was given by the Ministry of Education for the educational year 2008-2009. This is to guarantee DPU's efficient operations throughout 45 years. Furthermore, DPU employs ISO 9001:2008 to assess all of its operations to ensure the university's fame for students and their parents as the place for endless learning. DPU remains as the university concentrating on providing opportunities preparing students for the future.
