Bangkok--4 Jun--Signor Sassi Bangkok Italian Gastronomic Journey continues . . .@Signor Sassi Bangkokfrom May 20th to July 21st 2013 Visit four locations over eight weeks of exceptional food & superb wines from Mediterranean Italy to the Alpine north The second of our four stages Signor Sassi’s Italian Gastronomic Journey takes us from beautiful Sicily to Lazio region. Sitting in central Italy, Lazio is the location of the country’s capital Rome, the Eternal City. Every two weeks guests can look forward to tempting tasty sauces and mouth-watering desserts from four Italian regions. At each location along this gustatory expedition, you can savour the varied flavours of Italian food and wine. The fare only 1,200 Baht++ per person or upgrade your experience for just 750.00 Baht nett and experience the wine from the locality with the first three courses. The Lazio region of Italy is a land of contrasts; Rome is big, bustling and vibrant filled with ancient ruins; the Coliseum retains the awe, the Forum where Julius Caesar was assassinated, the Trevi Fountains, the magnificent Spanish Steps and the grandeur of the Vatican City and St Paul’s Basilica. Then follow the Appian Way out of Rome to the surrounding green and lush countryside. You will arrive at a small centuries old village. Narrow cobbled streets hemmed with cream-coloured dwellings, roofed with terracotta tiles. Keep walking and you will eventually come to an old church. Entering the church, the atmosphere is mercifully cool with a quiet that caresses the ears, light streams through the stained glass windows and bathes the interior in a rainbow of bright colours. This country is the origin of the Chianti wine produced by the mild sometimes rainy winters that alternate with sunny spells, a wet spring and hot, dry summer, cooled by brief showers provides the perfect climate to mature the grapes. After that ramble, it is time to eat and enjoy the flavours of Lazio. The first course is a classic of Lazio’s cuisine — Polpette al Pomodoro or minced pork meat balls with tomato sauce; this is paired with La Bella Addormentata Ros? from the Gran Sasso winery. The second course is another classic Lazio dish, Spaghetti Carbonara. This plate needs no explanation, except to say that Chef Filipo adds just a soup?on of cream to taste. The wine selected for this dish is a Vermentino white a delicious medium bodied wine from the famed Paggio al Sasso winery. The main course is an excellent example of fine Italian culinary craftsmanship: Porchetta alla Romana — a whole roasted pig stuffed with aromatic and flavorful herbs. The wine that accompanies this feast is a Chianti Classico, from the Cantine Leonardo. To end this gastronomic journey through central Italy there is no better way than with a simple, light and delicious chocolate tart. The tart is light and chocolaty with a lingering after taste that entices and teases the taste buds. Who can resist? Next stop . . . The Beautiful City of Venice!
