ProPak Asia — Asia’s No. 1 international processing and packaging technology event is coming back this year with the largest-ever area in all the 6 halls expecting to attract over 36,000 worldwide professional visitors. The 21st edition will open its doors from 12 to 15 June 2013 at Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC).
One of must-visits is French Pavilion which features the world’s experts on food, drinks and pharmaceutical processing, filling and packaging solutions in its biggest-ever pavilion of 144 sqm — doubling from last year which gathered 8 companies on 63-sqm exhibition space. This year, UBIFRANCE — French Agency for International Business Development, pavilion organizer, will bring together 18 cutting-edge French companies to showcase their latest technology. It is thus a great opportunity for Thai and regional entrepreneurs to meet with manufacturers and suppliers of high quality machinery, equipment and service from France.

According to Comtrade, in 2012, the world’s packaging machinery market reached US$17 billion, a stable figure as compared to 2011, with Germany and Italy as main contributors occupying half of the world’s exports. France is ranked the 5th among the world’s leading exporters. (Its export value reached US$738 million in 2012, an increase for 13% from 2011.) Its main clients are USA, UK, Germany and Italy and main suppliers are Italy and Germany.
In 2012, Thailand joined the top 10 world importers with the total value of purchasing orders for packaging machinery amounted to US$444 million (+39.6% as compared to 2011) representing 3.1% of the market share. Within one year, it could shift up its position from 13th to 7th rank after Brazil and France. France is on the 13th rank of Thailand’s supplying countries, with a relatively small market share of only 1.1%. However, during 2011 and 2012, imports of packaging machinery from France have been increased tremendously from 3.6 million in 2011 to 5.0 million in 2012 (+39%).
