Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai of Thailand assumed office as Interim President of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) on 1 July 2013.
Prof. Worsak was officially appointed Interim AIT President by the AIT Board of Trustees at a meeting on 20 June 2013. His appointment was announced to the public on 1 July 2013. Prior to assuming office as president, Prof. Worsak had served as Acting AIT President since 1 April 2013.
An alumnus of AIT, Professor Worsak becomes the second Interim President in AIT’s 53-year history, and the second Thai citizen to formally occupy the Office of the President. He follows Prof. Charas Suwanwela of Thailand who served as Interim AIT President from August 1998 until May 1999.
Professor Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai received his B. Eng (Hon.) from Chulalongkorn University in 1971, M. Eng. (Top Student Prize) from Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in 1973, and Ph.D. as a Fulbright Scholar from the University of California at Berkeley in 1978. He rejoined the Asian Institute of Technology in 1979, and has served as Assistant, Associate and Full Professor, Former Dean of School of Civil Engineering (SCE), Founding Dean of School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Vice President for Resource Development, and from 1 July 2013 as Interim President of AIT.
In his career, Prof. Worsak has received many national and international awards and recognition. In 1997, Prof. Worsak was inducted into the Royal Institute of Thailand. In 1999, he was honored as the National Researcher of Thailand by the National Research Council.
Prof. Worsak who has been very active in many international professional organizations, serving twice as Vice President of the Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT).
