The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation supports the “Prateep Ungsongtham Hata Award”, which the Duang Prateep Foundation this year grants to Police Lt.Col. Somkiet Seemakupt for his commitment to fighting drugs and protecting communities against drugs, as part of SET’s annual “Social Recognition Project” to honor and encourage philanthropic acts of individuals and organizations.
This award is one of those given in seven areas awarded to persons selected by seven organizations, recognizing the individuals concerned, and is one of SET’s corporate social responsibility projects. This project identifies, honors, and inspires those benefiting society and encourages others to follow in their footsteps.
Charamporn Jotikasthira, director and secretary of the SET Foundation, said that the SET Foundation has granted awards annually since 2007 to organizations that contribute to society. The Duang Prateep Foundation received funds to conduct activities for community development, which it then awards to the person in that year it feels best exemplifies its key mission, which is to continuously fight drug problems in slums.
Prateep Ungsongtham Hata, secretary of the Duang Prateep Foundation, said that Pol.Lt.Col. Somkiet had tirelessly and fearlessly dedicated himself to solve drug problems for more than ten years and had not fallen under the money influence of drug traders. He thus deserved to be honored and held as a role model for the general public.
The awardees chosen by the other five organizations will be announced soon. These organizations are the Football History Association of Thailand; the Population and Community Development Association; the Professor Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation; the Sugree Charoensook Foundation; the Thai Library Association. The first award, that for the Vimuttayalaya Foundation, was granted to Phan Pankum for his contribution to organic agriculture.
The SET realizes the importance of CSR and has incorporated social responsibility as a major part of its vision.
