Bangkok--24 Dec--SET
The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) Foundation honors and encourages philanthropic acts of individuals and organizations through its annual Social Recognition Project covering seven areas, with this year's sports contribution award from Football History Association of Thailand, sponsored by SET, being granted to Samruay Chomchoei, Koh Phi Phi inhabitant resident, for his outstanding work in using football to help rehabilitate tsunami victims.
The Social Recognition Project identifies, honors, and inspires those benefiting society; encourages others to follow in their footsteps, and has been organized annually since 2007. The SET realizes the importance of corporate social responsibility and has incorporated social responsibility as a major part of its vision.
Charamporn Jotikasthira, SET president and SET Foundation director and secretary, said: "Sports is a key tool for developing people’s quality of life. It strengthens health and mind, enabling them to improve their lives, families, communities, and society. It also builds morals, discipline, and responsibility, and teaches participants to respect the rights of others, all of which are key traits needed to develop an effective economy and society. These characteristics are in line with the SET Foundation’s intention to support the development of Thais and Thailand. Therefore, helping the Football History Association under this project will contribute towards building a sustainable society.”
Samrerng Chaiyong, chairman of the Football History Association, said that the social recognition project was of great value because it honored those sacrificing themselves for society even though they may have limited funds, highlighting that such persons or organizations could still be good role models for Thai society. The football association was very pleased to be a part of this project that developed the country’s human resources, which was in line with the motto“Sports build people, and people then build the nation.”
Six of the seven awards in this project have now been announced: the award for the Vimuttayalaya Foundation went to Phan Pankum for his contribution to organic agriculture; the Duang Prateep award went to Police Lieutenant Colonel Somkiat Seemakupt for his commitment to fighting drugs, including protecting slum residents from drugs; the Sugree Charoensook Award went to Tongsai Tubtanon for his musical talent in initiating usage of the Thai folk electric guitar to preserve Thai cultural heritage; the Population and Community Development Association award went to the Hug Muang Nan Foundation and Institute for Sustainable Agriculture Community of Chiang Mai province for rural social development; the Professor Sangvian Indaravijaya Foundation went to Sripan Viantong for education development; and the Prof. Khunying Manmas Chavalit award went to Juree Sangkapinyo and Nittaya Torprasitkul for library development.
