Bangkok--20 Mar--Asian Institute of Technology The development agenda after 2015 will witness a paradigm shift with natural disasters and climate change becoming inseparable from the macro-economy. Mapping these changes was Dr. Puji Pujiono, Chief Disaster Risk Reduction Section, of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) at a seminar organized on 13 March 2014 by the Disaster Preparedness Mitigation and Management (DPMM) field of study at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT). The Post 2015 agenda will be built around three critical factors – the shift from Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); a new agreement on emissions following the expiry of the Kyoto Protocol; and a new Hyogo Framework for Action. This will also imply a shifting of perspectives and a greater emphasis on disaster risk management, Dr. Pujiono remarked. The realization that “disaster risk can and should be preempted, prevented and managed” has implied that resilience has become an enduring central theme. Monitoring of resilience implies that we need pragmatic indicators, along with the inclusion of Disaster Risk Management (DRM) into SDGs, Dr. Pujiono added. The lecture was a part of a DPMM seminar series involving seven organizations including UNESCAP, Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), Thailand, International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), World Food Programme (WFP), World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC), and HelpAge. The seminar series will continue till 28 March 2014. Photo caption: Dr. Puji Pujiono
