The Department of International Trade Promotion,Ministry of Commerceand private sector host “TAPA 2014” under the theme “ASEAN Auto Parts Sourcing Hub, the Ultimate Green Technology”
The Department of International Trade Promotion under the Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with leading automobile associations and organizations are hosting “Thailand Auto Parts & Accessories 2014” (TAPA 2014) under “ASEAN Auto Parts Sourcing Hub, the Ultimate Green Technology” concept. The event showcases environmentally friendly production technology as well as promotes Thailand as a major hub for AEC automobiles and auto parts market with an aim of becoming the 5th largest global auto parts producer by 2016.
Mrs. Nuntawan Sakuntanaga, Director General of the Departmentof International Trade Promotion, disclosed that the department has been coordinating with Thai Autoparts Manufacturers Association and leading automobile organizations over the past year in order to get“Thailand Auto Parts & Accessories 2014 (TAPA 2014)”ready under the theme “ASEAN Auto Parts Sourcing Hub, the Ultimate Green Technology” in response to the current trend in global automobile industry. The event is to be the most extravagant ASEAN motor showand promoting Thailand as a leader and a hub for auto parts industry in the region. Trade forums and introduction of various products, innovations, and technologies in the event will stimulate business sector’s efficiency and abilityto compete in the upcoming AEC in 2015.
“TAPA 2014 acquiresover 400 leading manufacturers from Thailand and other countries including China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, India, and Singapore. Due to an overwhelming number of exhibitors this year, spaces have been expanded for Product Showcase and Bus & Truck exhibitions to portray Thai manufacturers’ capability to meet ASEAN-standard auto parts and accessories production. We want to make it big this year as we prepare for ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) as well as taking advantage of the opening up of markets and investments granting Thai entrepreneurs more opportunities to expand trade between member countries. ASEAN market is considered a huge and an up and coming market in global trade. More than 16,000 visitors and around 800 million baht in circulation are expected during the course of 4 days event.”
Mrs. Nuntawan stated that in 2013 Thailand’s automobiles manufacturing ranked 9th in the worldat 2.457 million unit. The country aims to produce 2.5 million cars this year and 3 million cars in 2016 in order to reach 5th rank. Auto parts export in January 2014 was estimated at 971.95 million US dollars, an expansion of 3.05 percent compares to the same period in 2013 accounted for 5.4 percent of the country’s overall exports. In 2014, expansion rate for auto parts export is expected to be 10 percent due to weaken baht values. Based on national production, 40 percent will be exported while 60 percent will be sold domestically.
Mrs. Anchana Limpaitoon, President of Thai Auto Parts Manufacturers Association (TAPMA)—one of TAPA 2014 organizers, stated that previous TAPA eventswere well received by automobiles and auto parts entrepreneurs. Many of them participated in Product Showcase demonstrating the latest automobiles and auto parts technologies. There were also seminars focusing on the future of automobile industry and a development of Thailand’s auto parts. This year focus is “ASEAN Auto Parts Sourcing Hub , the Ultimate in Green Technology” which has begun since 2010 when the country’s capability to become the center of ASEAN automobile and auto parts manufacturing industry was recognized.
“TAPA 2014 is held to demonstrate ways to produce automobiles and auto parts to reduce global warming like promoting electric and hybrid cars production, adapting Euro 4 and Euro 5 emission standards, and using renewable energy. There will be exhibitions of automobiles that help reduce global warming from various manufacturers as well ashigh-standard motorcycles, trucks, and bus exhibitions. With collaboration between the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Thai Auto Parts Manufacturers Association (TAPMA), Thai Subcontracting Promotion Association (ThaiSubcon), Thai Auto Parts Aftermarket Association (TAPAA) as well as local and foreign exhibitors, the event will certainly be successful with auto parts expected to be sold no less thanduringTAPA 2012.”
Currently, major automobiles and auto parts manufacturers in ASEAN are Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines and Vietnam. Out of 4.4 million cars being produced by these countries in 2013, Thailand alone produced 2.47 million cars. This means Thailand is a vital manufacturing base with over 50 years of technology transfer and automobile industry development providing the country with production and export advantages attracting numbers of investors. Thailand is also a champion in producing pickup trucks and eco-cars with more than 1 million cars exported annually to Australia, and countries in the Middle East and Asia, worth 600-700 billion baht. Auto parts are exported to Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the United States of America, and Brazil worth more than 300 billion baht as the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) of which 80 percent are used in manufacturing cars while 20 percent are replacement parts.
“Thailand Auto Parts & Accessories 2014 (TAPA 2014)”is being held from April 28th to May 1st, 2014 at 10.00 – 18.00 at Hall 101 – 104 of Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Center (BITEC) Bangna. Business negotiation dates are April 28th - 30thallowing entrepreneurs from all over the world to meet with exhibitors and to attend automobile seminars.
