Getting out of the ‘middle-income’ trap

Bangkok--24 Jun--AustCham Thailand The Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Thailand) and the Australian Embassy Bangkok will be holding a conference on “Enabling Prosperity: Moving Beyond the Middle-Income Trap,” which will explore the notion of the middle-income trap, its implications on the Thai economy and possible resolutions for both the public and private sector. The conference, scheduled for 25 June 2014 from 1030-1700 hrs at Grand Hyatt Erawan Bangkok, will bring together leaders from government, business, academia and multilateral institutions to develop a comprehensive understanding of the middle-income trap and its impact on the Thai economy. According to Mr. Leigh Scott-Kemmis, AustCham Thailand President, “This is a conference AustCham Thailand office organized in conjunction with the Australian Embassy. The conference is aimed at providing information on relevant subjects linked to business operation, business opportunities and strengthening the trade relationships between Australia and Thailand.” The keynote address will be delivered by Dr Narongchai Akrasanee, former Commerce Minister and Senator, while HE James Wise, Australian Ambassador of Thailand, will talk on ‘Collaborative Opportunities for the Future.’ Dr Somkiat Anuras, Vice Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Chairman and Committee on Reducing Inequality of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, will talk on ‘The Power of Business to and Influence Change.’ Mr Peter Michener, Vice President of Business Development of Mitr Phol Group, will talk on ‘Knowledge Transfer: The Key to Productivity and Innovation’ and Mr Peetachai Dejkraisak, CEO of Siam Organic Co Ltd, will talk on ‘Social Enterprise: The New Age of Competitive Strategy.’ Other speakers will present on other issues and challenges. Conference fee is at 2,250 baht per person. The conference will be followed by the Australian Alumni Annual Gala Dinner at 1,300 baht per person.
