- Gulliver will have 10 showrooms by the yearend
- 100 more showrooms will be on service by the end next year
V-Gulliver Company Limited, the franchiser of Gulliver International Japan used car brand, leads their franchisee to open second showroom in Thailand at Nakhon Sawan with the initial investment of approximately 10 million baht, according to Mr. Katsushi Nomura, Managing Director of V-Gulliver.
Mr. Nomura said the new showroom would serve the local and motorists who are living surrounding provinces and are looking for used cars as well as the motorists who want to sell their cars with an initial sales target of 30 to 50 cars per month and initial purchased target of 30 to 50 cars per month.
He said the Nakhon Sawan Branch is owned by V-Group, a franchisee of V-Gulliver, and is located on 1 rai with parking space for 50 vehicles.
“Now we are in a process to open more showrooms and next showroom will be at Nawamin in Bangkok which will be opened in September,” said Mr. Nomura.
He said now V-Gulliver has been discussing with interested firms to join with V-Gulliver as its franchisees, some of which are from Japan. The selected partners will be trained by Gulliver and will also be supported by Gulliver system, including PSA – Purchase and Sales Assessment System.
In March, Gulliver opened its first showroom on Sri Nakarin Road and the showroom has performed efficiently with the sales of around 20 cars per month. “This is on our target,” said Mr. Nomura.
“We are talking with interested partners to open more showrooms and by the end of this year we will have 10 showrooms and 100 showrooms nationwide by the end of next year,” said Mr. Nomura.
Mr. Nomura added that now V-Gulliver has been contacted by many interested entrepreneurs from many provinces and V-Gulliver has held talks with them encouraging the company is very confident that it would successfully open 10 showrooms this year and 100 showrooms in next year.
He mentioned if the franchisees join Gulliver from scratch, they might need 25 million baht as its initial investment and operation cost for each showroom, 10million of which for construction and the rest for vehicles stock and administration, with around 3 years for breakeven period.
“I would say it is the right time for us to start recruiting franchisees now because the local politic situation has been improved encouraging the consumer’s confident comes back. So, from now on, the purchasing power should be gradually improved,” said Mr. Nomura.
Gulliver is very confident on the used car market in Thailand because the market has high potential to grow as the ratio of car holders among house holders is only 13.8 % in year 2010. On the other hands, Japan is 86.5 %, regarding to JETRO’s report. Moreover, since the politic situation is improved, the Thai consumers are getting more confidence to purchase the big item goods.
Gulliver is the largest used car firm from Japan and it established a joint venture, V-Gulliver, with V-Group, a leading automotive related firm in Thailand, to develop used car business in Thailand. It is now building some more showrooms in addition to its first showroom on Sri Nakarin Road with an initial investment of 10 million baht and by the end of this year 10 Gulliver showrooms will be in service nationwide.
Gulliver has been established more than two decades and now it is Japan’s number one used Car Company in Japan with 430 branches in Japan. It is buying 200,000 used cars a year and selling 60,000 cars through its 430 nationwide branches.
V-Gulliver is very confident that Gulliver brand will be well accepted in Thailand soon because Gulliver has introduced the success used car business platform to the Thai society, including 30 days or 5,000 km customer’s satisfaction buyback with six months or 10,000 kilometers warranty and 1 to 3 years warranty options depending on the aging of the vehicle.
