12th World Film Festival of Bangkok celebrates the “Digital Age”

Bangkok--20 Oct--SF Corporation Public The Ministry of Culture collaboration with Nation Broadcasting Corporation Public Co., Ltd., SF Corporation Public Co., Ltd., is inviting movie fans to enjoy a wide variety of films at the 12th World Film Festival of Bangkok, the longest-running film festival in Thailand, which once again features a wealth of cultures and perspectives from film-makers around the globe. Throughout the history of the World Film Festival of Bangkok, we have dedicated ourselves to searching for and bringing to our audiences the most fascinating films from around the world. Another equally important goal has been to serve as a stage to introduce new and talented directors and filmmakers to the film-going public. This year, as we celebrate the 12th edition of the festival, we are proud to present a whole new context of the film industry: the knowledge, technology, beliefs and creativity of the digital film era. We have chosen a range of exciting films from leading film festivals around the world, among them France’s “The Blue Room” by Mathieu Amalric, the renowned Myanmar film “Ice Poison”by Midi Z and Tsai Ming Liang ‘s newest production “Journey To The West”. Also being screened are such popular titles as “Mommy” by Xavier Dolan “El Mudo” by Daniel and Diego Vega, “Chasing Fireflies” by Roberto Flores, “Footnote” by Joseph Cedar, “3 Indian Tales” by Robert Morin, “Whiplash” by Damien Chazelle, “Villa Touma” by Suha Arraf and the Oscar winner “Twenty Feet From Stardom” by Morgan Nelville. To reflect the change in context, we are showing “Goodbye to Language” a 3-D experimental movie and the latest oeuvre of Jean-Luc Godard, director, screenwriter, film critic and one of the world’s most influential filmmakers, together with his “Pierrot Le Fou”. Another must-see is the complete version of classic sci-fi “Metropolis”. In collaboration with the French Animation festival, we are also proud to bring to Bangkok several exciting animations including “A Cat In Paris” by “Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol, “The Congress” by Ari Folman, Ernest & Celestine” by Stephane Aubier and Vincent Patar and “Minuscule: Valley of the Lost Ants” by Helene Giraud and Thomas Szabo. This year, we are opening the festival with the Thai documentary “Somboon” by new and talented filmmaker Krissada Tipchaimeta, which paints a fascinating and heart-warming portrait of an elderly Thai couple. Other Thai documentaries selected for the festival are “Golden Demonic” and “Your River, My River, Our Soul”. Our successful co-production workshop “Produire au Sud” also returns this year with five selected projects: “Arnold is A Model Student” (Thailand)” directed by Sorayos Prapapan and produced by Donsaron Kovitvanitcha; “Nervous Translation” (Philippines) directed by Shireen Seno and produced by John Torres, “ORN” (Thailand) directed by Thammaruja Dharmasaroja and produced by Thammasiree Dharmasaroja, “The Science of Fictions” (Indonesia) directed by Edwin Nazir and produced by Yosep Anggi Noen, and “Where Does The Mango Come From?” (Vietnam) directed by Quy Truong and produced by Ha Vu. All five projects will be part of an intensive workshop with leading international film producers and agents from France. This year, the Lotus award will be presented to Pisan Akraseranee, a Thai director who has dedicated his life to cinema. And this year, for the first time, the World Film Festival will travel to the provinces so that film fans living outside Bangkok may also benefit. It will be held in Khon Kaen from November 7- 9, in Pattaya from November 14-16 and in Chiang Mai from November 20-23. The 12th World Film Festival of Bangkok is co-organised by the Ministry of Culture, Nation Broadcasting Corporation Plc., and SF Corporation Public Co., Ltd. It is supported by Tourism Authority of Thailand, Kasikorn Bank, Total Access Communication Public Company Limited, ThaiNamthip Commercial Limited, EVA Air, The Berkeley Hotel - Pratunam, Stella Artois, and Tohkai Catering with the cooperation of several foreign embassies in Thailand.
