V-Gulliver Company Limited, an affiliate of Japan’s No.1 used car firm, has opened its 4th showroom, Gulliver Samut Prakan which is owned by Novil Company – a franchisee from Japan, as part of its network expansion plan of V-Gulliver Company Limited, the franchisor of Gulliver International Japan used car brand, according to Mr. Katsushi Nomura, Managing Director of V-Gulliver.
Mr. Nomura said the forth showroom will be Gulliver biggest outlet in the kingdom with capacity to display around 100 cars and would strengthen Gulliver network in Thailand to enhance and upgrade used car market in the Thailand.
“Novil is considered as the second franchisee from Japan, entering into Thailand after EPM which currently operates Gulliver Nawamin. The new showroom will support our plan to modernize used car market in Thailand,” said Mr. Nomura.
Gulliver Samut Prakan is owned by Novil (Thailand) Corporation Limited, a subsidiary of Japan’s Novil with registered capital of 6 million baht while its investment of the outlet is around 30 million baht, the largest size of the showroom in Thailand with 150 stock parking space. V-Gulliver will have showroom opening for Gulliver Samut Prakan on the 6th March, and has set its monthly sales target more than 50 cars.
Mr. Nomura said during the opening period, Gulliver Samut Prakan would introduce the Japanese traditional festival called Matsuri Festival to promote the new showroom. At the event, customers and general public are welcome to join the entertainment as well as the Japanese traditional food and culture. The event will start from the 6th March to 15th March and customers who purchased used car from the new showroom will be offered up to 20,000B discount and some free services.
Meanwhile, Mr. Hiroki Hisaoka, Novil’s Managing Director added that Novil of Japan had been interested in entering to set up its first overseas branch in Thailand since Gulliver established a joint venture, V-Gulliver, in Thailand.
“We started negotiating with Gulliver to set up a new company in Thailand and today I’m proud to have our first overseas outlet in Thailand. This is because I’m very confident that Thailand has very high potential to grow and the most important thing for us is the brand of Gulliver which I’m confident that it will be well accepted by the Thai society very soon,” he said.
Novil has been a franchisee of Gulliver in Japan for 16 years in Japan, they sold more than 300 used cars in last year through 6 Novil-owned Gulliver showrooms while this year they expect to sell around 400 cars in Japan under Gulliver brand.
Mr. Nomura noted that Gulliver in Thailand would continue to open more showrooms throughout the kingdom, including Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Khon Kaen, another one in Bangkok, and Suphan Buri.
“If we have sufficient number of showroom, we will be able to strengthen more on our stock share program among our showrooms, meaning that potential used car buyers in Chiang Mai are able to buy the car through our Gulliver Network, likewise from Khon Kaen or Bangkok. On the other hand, people in other provinces are also offered very good quality and variety of cars from Chiang Mai,” said Mr. Nomura.
Although the used car market in Thailand is not yet favorable right now, Mr. Nomura said V-Gulliver had been confident that the used car market should be gradually improved in the 2nd half of this year causing it had been approached by many interested firms, including independent used car tent owners, leasing firms, and individual businessmen, to join V-Gulliver as franchisees. V-Gulliver is very confident that Thailand has high potential for Gulliver brand as a result of the JETRO’s report saying the ratio of car holders among house holders is only 13.8 % in year 2010. On the other hands, Japan is 86.5 %.
