Bangkok--20 Apr--McThai
McThai Co., Ltd. the operator of the McDonald’s brand in Thailand has achieved continuous success in business and personnel management. At latest it has won “Best Employer Thailand 2015” after a survey by Aon Hewitt in collaboration with Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration Chulalongkorn University. It is the only business in the category of Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) to have won this award for 3 times consecutively in the last 10 years.
Aon Hewitt’s Best Employers Study has become the most comprehensive study of its kind in Asia Pacific. It is conducted in 12 markets: Australia/New Zealand, China, Hong Kong, Japan, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. For McThai, the study queried staff about their loyalty to the company, their pride in the brand, the effectiveness of their leadership, and the creation of a working culture focused on performance. The study randomly sampled representative employees from the 9,000-strong workforce and the results were passed to a judging committee. This decided that McThai was an outstanding employer this year.
Mr. Hester Chew Chairman of Executive Committee and Chief Executive of McThai Co.,Ltd. said, “I am delighted and extremely proud that McThai has been chosen as “Best Employer Thailand 2015” after winning Best Employers in Thailand and in APAC in 2011 and Best of the Best Employer in Thailand and Regional Accredited Best Employer in APAC in 2013 from an Aon-Hewitt-Sasin study. At the end of last year, McThai was the only brand to win Top Company for Leaders® in South East Asia 2014 from Aon Hewitt, the global leader in human resource solutions.
“This award reflects the ongoing confidence and commitment of our people to the company and their readiness to achieve business success, which is consistent with McThai’s management policies, ever since 2006, when I took the reins here at McDonald’s Thailand. One of the company’s visions was to become the Employer of Choice by 2011. This is because McDonald’s is a People Business and we gave the first priority to looking after our people, because we believed that if we looked after our people, the business would take care of itself and grow sustainably. Now we have grown to 200 branches and the workforce has grown from 3,000 in 2006 to the current 9,000, and sales have grown continuously. This reflects our success in business. But over and above numbers, which are the measure of business success, our management also considers the index of employees’ loyalty to the company. This study was conducted to create understanding of thestrategies driving the company to achieve business results from its personnel. It also helps the company measure the effectiveness of its human resources management. It is an honored award at the global level coveted by many leading companies. In Thailand the studies have been carried out since 2001, and the studies have found that McThai is the only QSR brand to have won 3 Outstanding Employer’s Awards consecutively in the last 10 years.”
Mr. Hester Chew spoke about the factors for success. “McDonald’s is a People Business and we give importance to our people because they are the ones giving happiness and good impressions to our customers. They are the important motor for good business results. So this success really comes from them helping to drive a strong corporate culture, called STEPUP. This has become a concrete strategy of daily operations for McThai, which comprises: S-Sanook @ Work – happiness and fun creating the enthusiasm to work, T-Team to Win - working as one team with trust and confidence in everybody’s ideas, E-Exceed Customer Expectation – understanding and giving customers more than their basic needs, P-People – continuous support and development of personnel, so they are appreciative of each other’s success, U-Ultimate Ownership – working as if they owned the business, with the courage to face and solve problems creatively, and P-Passion to Win – creating the passion, dedication and thirst for success, to be number one.”
Mr. Jirawat Taengjanegit, Chief People Officer of McThai Co., Ltd. said, “Being chosen for “Best Employer Thailand 2015” comes from the confidence and trust of our staff towards the company. This takes time to create because it must start from the CEO and senior management being good models for the managers of every branch, who are representatives of the brand and cultural ambassadors. They have the most important role in creating understanding and looking after over 9,000 staffs dispersed in many provinces. Also, creating the atmosphere and incentives to work is one thing that should not be overlooked, because times change and we have staff from manygenerations. They must come together to create a balanced and consistent performance in the same direction. In the current situation of strong competition and business expansion, we need a large number of personnel to support business growth. Therefore, McDonald’s must differentiate itself to be the number one Employer of Choice for people entering the QSR sector. A strong culture helps support the greatest work effectiveness, especially in teamwork to achieve targets successfully. It also encourages a good attitude to providing service and having fun at work, which is an important part of people development. One more differentiating factor is leadership, which is an important factor for looking after staff.”
“Now the level of staff expectations is gradually increasing, so McDonald’s is emphasizing staff happiness and creating loyalty to the company. It is also necessary to listen to staff opinions and meet their needs as well as we can. This includes the commitment for staff to work happily and be able to grow with the company, so they work with us and have continuous opportunities to get on. McThai being the only QSR brand to receive the Award for three years consecutively in the last 10 years is confirmation that we are on the right path. We are committed to give first priority to our people, and we are determined to develop our personnel as much as we can. At present, McDonald’s has 212 restaurants nationwide servicing 8 million customers per month with 9,000 staffs. The current strong state of McDonald’s business comes from teamwork to drive the strong corporate culture, which is the cause of our current success,” concluded Mr.Jirawat
