Smooth transition to Microsoft Lync 2013 connects employees, improves productivity and slashes IDD costs while leaving room for future growth
Dimension Data, the US$6.7 billion global ICT solutions and services organisation, has helped a world-leading, Hong Kong-based consumer and industrial power tools provider, to upgrade and future-proof its unified communications infrastructure to support growth and boost mobility among its employees.
The company, which operates a stable of instantly recognisable appliance and tool brands used in the home improvement, hardware and construction industries, has moved its existing Microsoft Lync 2010 solution to the latest and most feature-rich version Lync 2013 with Enterprise Voice Call experience.
“We have more than 400 employees in Hong Kong, and nearly half of them have to travel for business or work in remote locations. Communication is the glue that keeps the company connected and enables employees to collaborate quickly and efficiently – in Hong Kong and around the region, with each other, with our customers and business partners,” said a company spokesperson.
“As a growing international player in a competitive industry, we need a future-proof communication platform with enhanced mobility. Dimension Data is fully aware of the pain points caused by our ageing solution. They quickly developed a fast and effective upgrade solution, complemented by robust support, to help us achieve our expansion goals,” he said.
Following an in-depth consultation, Dimension Data recommended an immediate upgrade to Microsoft Lync Voice 2013. This included integration with the firm’s existing PBX system by deploying a VoIP gateway, configuring appropriate dialling properties and normalisation rules.
Leveraging the Lync App, the upgrade also covered both Android and iOS mobile platforms, creating a reliable and seamless communication experience for the employees. In addition, Dimension Data enhanced the company’s Lync Online Meeting solution with a variety of Lync conferencing devices.
With the new Microsoft Lync environment in place, the company’s employees can now enjoy premium VoIP communications and the ability to conduct online meetings – even on mobile devices. This means that employees can collaborate efficiently anytime, anywhere. As an added benefit, the company will also enjoy significant cost savings on IDD calls.
“In a city where mobile subscriber penetration rate is an astronomical rate of 1237.4%, employees in Hong Kong are pioneers in adopting enterprise mobility. To take full advantage of this fast-moving and tech-savvy mentality, organisations need smart, up-to-date communications that will support current needs and scale readily to accommodate future requirements,” said Steve Lam, Managing Director, Dimension Data Hong Kong,
“We are delighted that this industry-leading manufacturer has chosen Dimension Data as its partner to overhaul and enhance its business-critical unified communications platform. With our team that has built a proven track-record of success, and our solid partnership with Microsoft, we are confident that the client will reap the benefits of an efficient, future-proofed communications platform that will enable them to boost productivity and fuel their plans for global expansion,” said Lam.
