It is time for Mazda to challenge the leadership in the SUV market once again, with the new CX-5 SKYACTIV crossover. The CX-5 achieved tremendous success when it was first launched as the first Mazda model with full SKYACTIV technology, and it is ready to make a historic comeback with a comprehensive package of the most advanced automotive technologies available. Mr. Hidesuke Takesue, President of Mazda Sales (Thailand) Co. Ltd., said Mazda's success roots from its determination in introducing new models into the Thai market. "Last year Mazda launched 5 new models in Thailand and this year we are planning to launch 7 more new models," he said. "The CX-5 is the second model that we introduced this year after the facelift version of the Mazda3 that now comes with i-Stop and added safety features."
"In 2015, Mazda was able to achieve sales of over 40,000 units, recording a 15-per cent growth and 5-per cent market share. This year, the goal is to win a 5.5-per cent market share, which is the highest target ever. We plan to sell 44,000 vehicles in Thailand this year, an increase of 10 per cent, and in January this year Mazda sales have already grown by 27 per cent to 3,491 units, equivalent to a 7-per cent market share. As a result, up to date, Mazda has sold over 52,000 vehicles in total of SKYACTIV technology products in this country" he said.
Continued success is the proof of Mazda's strengths, he said. "Mazda truly believes that the SKYACTIV technology is the best innovation in the automotive world, and it is able to answer effectively to every driver requirement, whether it is the engine performance and fuel economy, or the attractive KODO design, as well as MZD CONNECT and i-ACTIVESENSE. Mazda has incorporated all these features into the new CX-5, making it the only vehicle in its class with the highest level of technology and equipment. The CX-5 can be considered as the leader and benchmark setter in the Thai automobile market," he said.
According to Mr. Hidesuke, the SUV market last year is the only market segment that enjoyed growth amidst the declining economy, and showed signs of continues growth. "Mazda created a surprise by finishing third in this segment and we expect the total automobile market to remain stable this year – we will see a clearer picture during the second half of the year. The SUV market is still the highlight and will slowly lead the total market to growth as there is still purchasing power and demand. The CX5 is out second new model this year and is expected to be highly successful," he said.
The Mazda CX-5 made its global debut in Japan in 2012 and features full SKYACTIV technology, being the first model from Mazda's 6th generation of vehicles. It was highly successful in the Japanese market and was the best-selling SUV in Japan. With SKYACTIV technology and KODO design, the CX-5 offered customers something they had never experienced before. Awards for the CX-5 were abundant including Japan Car of the Year 2012-2013, Top Safety Pick from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) in 2015 as well as 5-star crash safety from Euro NCAP.

The new Mazda CX-5 SKYACTIV SUV boasts excellent power delivery while minimizing fuel consumption with two engine choices. The SKYACTIV-D 2.2-liter clean diesel offers an average fuel economy of 17.5km/liter while the SKYACTIV-G gasoline engine delivers 14.5km/liter. Five body colors are available – Reflex Blue, Metallic Aluminum, Mica Grey and Arctic White (new color).

The new Mazda CX-5 comes with the highest level of Active Safety and Passive Safety, bettering global standards.
For passive safety, there are dual front SRS airbags, side airbags and windowbags, as well as ELR (Emergency Locking Retractor) seatbelts for both the driver and passenger, while the headrests have been designed to provide the most suitable angle to lower injuries from rear-end impact. The rear seat design also help to prevent the passenger from being thrown in front. Meanwhile, the engine compartment lid has been designed to help lower impact to pedestrians in case of an accident.
Active safety features include ESS (EMERGENCY SIGNAL SYSTEM) that warns others during hard braking with hazard lights that switch off automatically once the driver releases the brakes or keep on blinking if the driver's foot remains on the brakes until the vehicles comes to a complete stop.
The disc brakes on all four wheels are governed by ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution). There are also DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), HLA (Hill Launch Assist) and TCS (Traction Control System) that assist the driver in difficult situations.
These safety features reflect Mazda's concern for the driver and passengers as well as pedestrians, and its effort in raising the safety level of its products.
