Introduces eBay ShopBot Beta, a personal shopping assistant powered by artificial intelligence
eBay, a global e-commerce leader, shared details of its achievements in the rapidly-growing mobile commerce sector at the recent Thailand Mobile Summit 2016. In the third quarter of this year, approximately US$ 9.4 billion of eBay's Sales Volume came from transactions on mobile devices. Fifty-seven percent of eBay's Gross Merchandise Volume involves a mobile touch point. The company has introduced the eBay ShopBot Beta personal shopping assistant to help buyers find their version of perfect among the billion items for sale on eBay.
Mr. Boonphan Boonprayoon, Thailand Country Manager for eBay, said, "Over the past 20 years, eBay has evolved from an auction site to one of the world's leading shopping destinations. Today, 80% of what is sold on eBay is new merchandise available for immediate purchase. Over 300 million times a day, 165 million active buyers worldwide search for items listed on eBay. With an estimated 3.4 billion[1]people around the world now using a smartphone to connect, engage and shop, mobile is reaching a tipping point. Mobile will represent about half of e-commerce in 2018, growing four times faster than desktop. eBay continually invests to improve search results, provide accurate product comparisons, and create a more relevant, compelling platform for our customers, especially for mobile commerce."
eBay has a solid track record of success in mobile commerce. The eBay mobile app for Android and iPhone has been downloaded over 337 million times. Entrepreneurs trade with customers around the clock and across the world remotely from their laptops, including many thousands of eBay sellers in Thailand.
To help keep its e-commerce platform at the forefront, the company recently introduced the eBay ShopBot Beta. It's a smart personal shopping assistant powered by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and human judgment, accessible via Facebook Messenger. eBay ShopBot helps people find the best deals on eBay by texting, talking, or snapping a photo to tell the bot what they are looking for. eBay ShopBot asks a few questions to better understand their intent, then provides personalized recommendations from among the billion items listed on eBay.
"At eBay, we empower people and create opportunity through Connected Commerce. With more than half of our Gross Merchandise Volume already involving a mobile touch point, and a constant stream of innovations such as the eBay ShopBot, eBay will remain a major driver of the mobile commerce revolution," concluded Mr. Boonprayoon.
