Bangkok will see the largest international gathering of social investors in Asia at the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) Conference from 7th – 9th June 2017 at the Intercontinental Hotel Bangkok. In partnership with the Khonthai Foundation, the event brings together over 500 social investors from around the world to foster the growth of the social sector ecosystem in Asia. The conference theme "Collaboration for Impact" reflects the importance of partnership across sectors and borders when looking to tackle some of Asia's biggest social challenges.
Now in its fifth year, the AVPN Conference historically draws together representatives from over 30 countries. This year's list of expected attendees includes international foundations like Rockefeller and Sasakawa Peace Foundation, local family offices and companies involved in philanthropy and impact investing, international corporates including Coca Cola, Google and Credit Suisse, and government agencies like USAID and Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).

The more than 100 Speakers contributing to the 3 day Conference will include thought leaders, innovators and practitioners from across the region including some of the most influential people driving the social sector in Thailand. Dr. Somkiat Tangkitvanich, President, Thailand Development Research Institute, will share insights on social investment in Thailand and Dr. Bandid Nijathaworn, President and CEO of the Thai Institute of Directors will be discussing Examples of Collaborative Platforms for Social Investments in Thailand. The conference will focus on collaboration across social, corporate and government sectors throughout the 40+ sessions, with topics like 'Disruptive Innovations in Education', 'Food Security and Nutrition', and 'Technology for social good'.
AVPN's CEO, Ms. Naina Subberwal Batra, has high expectations for this year's conference. Among other topics, the Conference will play host to the launch of AVPN's latest research report: The Social Investment Landscape in Asia. The Social Investment Landscape in Asia is a holistic study of the current Asian philanthropy and social investment market across 14 countries including Thailand. The report will be launched on 7thJune and will offer an overview of the market as well as pinpoint opportunities and challenges to help social investors make the most impact with their funding.
The AVPN Conference will also be a unique platform for local social enterprises to showcase themselves among a total of 30 organisations to an international delegation of investors. A special Investment Showcase, called Deal Share Live, will feature local favourites: Teach For Thailand, Child's Dream Foundation, Learn Education, Socialgiver, The Asia Foundation, The Internet Education and Research Lab and Yaowawit School, alongside 23 other international organisations. The 30 entrepreneurs are seeking a combined total of USD 28.6 Million and are supported by investors like Khonthai Foundation, Apnic Foundation, DFAT, CARE International, Impact Hub, Thai Young Philanthropist Network, The Nippon Foundation and World Vision International.
In conjugation with the AVPN Conference, there is another social collaboration among Thai organizations in the Good Society Expo, taking place from 9 – 11 June at the Central World showcasing more than 80 social organizations. This expo will continue this spirit of accelerating collaboration among social investors and practitioners to encourage all citizens to be more active in helping to tackle social issues in Thailand through several innovative platforms.
