Bangkok--19 Feb--ESCAP-SCAS Ministers, senior UN officials and civil society representatives from around the world will convene in Bangkok this week for the Global SDG7 Conference, where they will identify trends and gaps towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7(SDG7) on Energy. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has set out 17 Goals and 169 targets, which jointly constitute a comprehensive plan of action to eradicate poverty and ensure sustainable development. Recognizing the importance of energy for sustainable development, SDG7 has been established as the first-ever universal goal on energy, and includes targets for access, renewables and energy efficiency. Against this backdrop, the Conference aims to align development efforts among all stakeholders, including governments, the private sector and civil society, in support of SDG7 and the 2030 Agenda. Delegates will discuss key issues related to progress on the Goal and its interlinkages with other SDGs, including health, education, gender, food, water, humanitarian response and climate change. The Global SDG7 Conference will also provide substantive input to the 2018 High-level Political Forum - the United Nations' annual global gathering for reviewing commitments toward sustainable development, scheduled for 13 July in New York.
