Bangkok--12 Mar--TQPR Siam Sinfonietta, one of Southeast Asia's most high-profile youth orchestras, is doing an epic fundraiser concert for its upcoming visit to Carnegie Hall and Washington DC. Those who were young in 1977 when the first Star Wars film swept into your lives, relive the thrills of your childhood — those who grew up on The Phantom Menace and The Clone Wars, experience the excitement all over again — young people now just discovering these legendary films — hear it all from a live, 80-piece symphony orchestra and big chorus! Thailand's 501st will provide Storm Troopers! Billed as a Southeast Asian "epic first": Imperial March? Duel of the Fates? The Jedi Steps? Luke and Leia? Cantina Band? You'll hear ALL those favorites and more — music from all eight main sequence Star Wars movies, using the full scale John Williams Signature Series scores, with full symphony and chorus — plus excerpts from the Rogue One score by Michael Giacchino! Income from this concert will all go to making possible Siam Sinfonietta's April tour to Carnegie Hall and the Reagan Amphitheater in Washington, celebrating the discovery by Smithsonian's Dr. Paul Michael Taylor of boxes of documents relating to the music of His Majesty King Rama IX in the Library of Congress. Conductor Somtow Sucharitkul was in the audience at the Uptown Theater in Washington DC at the very opening show in 1977. The next year, he sold his first science fiction story to Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine. In 1982, Somtow was with Gary Kurtz, producer of "The Empire Strikes Back", at the Hugo Awards ceremony when both of them won awards: "Empire" for "Best Dramatic Presentation" and Somtow for "Best New Writer". As an artist, his life has often intersected with and been influenced by the epic series. Conducting this concert is "one of my bucket list items," he said. 36 of the 51 members of Thailand's Star Wars costuming club, the 501st Garrison, are already coming to the show, but the audience is encouraged to dress up as well, so dust off that Darth Vader mask! One of the Lords of the Sith will surely present a prize to the most magnificent costume! Date of Concert: March 15 at 8 pm at Thailand Cultural Center Main Hall Tickets Available from: Thai Ticket Major outlets/ Eventbrite / directly by sending a LINE message to @operasiam (Thai or English)
