- Over 7,000 young people in 47 countries around the world joined the global initiative
- #ExperienceWorkDay aims to bridge the gap between education and work
More than 7,000 young men and women in 47 countries including Thailand gained valuable "real world" work experience and career advice through the Adecco Group's second annual #ExperienceWorkDay, with more than 7,000 young men and women in 47 countries. #ExperienceWorkDay is part of Adecco Way to Work(R), a global initiative run by the leading HR solutions partner to bridge the gap between education and the workplace.
Despite signs that the global economy and labour markets are in recovery, youth unemployment has remained high. Many young people find it difficult to enter the job market after completing their education, with employers citing a need for specific skills and pointing to a lack of experience as a significant barrier. In Thailand, university graduates still have the highest unemployment rate. Many of them still not sure of what career they want to do in future. The transition between education and work is a very delicate process, and young people often need assistance in making their search for employment a more effective and less frustrating experience.
On April 24th, Adecco Group Thailand deployed 60 of its employees in Bangkok to provide #ExperienceWorkDay participants with mentoring and help them prepare for a successful career. 76 young men and women attended workshops and spent a day shadowing Adecco Group professionals as they went about their work. In the process, participants learned more about roles and responsibilities, the career paths and sectors of interest to them, from HR Development and HR Management to IT and Digital Innovation, Sales, Legal, Accounting and Finance. They also gained insights into what employers look for and how to successfully navigate in the profession and fast-moving labour market.
"Young men and women in Thailand can often find it hard to get on to the career ladder," said Tidarat Kanchanawat, Regional Director - Thailand and Vietnam Adecco Group Thailand. On #ExperienceWorkDay we gave our participants the tools they need to get their careers off to a flying start. While our 60 colleagues shared their expertise for this mission, #ExperienceWorkDay also represents a great opportunity to forge closer ties with young people and to share and embrace innovative ideas."
The program gained many positive feedbacks from youngsters who want to prepare themselves before entering the world of work. "I'm very impressed with the activity. I joined the job shadow program of HR Recruitment Manager. I gained a lot of experience and knowledge from real professional in HR Line. Said Phanthira Naksawat, a senior student from Faculty of Social Administration, Thammasat University. "The staff here are very kind and supportive they encourage us to ask questions and they are willingly to answer our questions. I felt it was the right choice to join the activity. Said Thansinee Reogkwanyongmee, a Liberal Art student from Chulalongkorn University who experienced Recruitment Consultant job shadow activity.
#ExperienceWorkDay is part of the global Adecco Way to Work(R) programme, launched by the Adecco Group in 2013 to support young men and women as they prepare to transition from education into work and to help them develop employable skills. Thanks to the scheme, over 20,000 young people have been offered internships and apprenticeships since 2015.
