Bangkok--25 Sep--Thyme D Plus
Last week of Bangkok Biennial ba:nana:press artspace in lively Soi Nana in Chinatown boasts a 2-man show: paintings by Justin Mills and photographs by Cedric Arnold. Justin's latest collection highlights poetry and lyrics that have influenced him over the years, encoded in self-created typography against a colourful expressionist backdrop. Cedric's photo exhibition is the result of chaotic dark room experiments with old film negatives that evoke faded memories. Both artists have lived and worked in Bangkok for numerous years.
Justin Mills:
"In this new series of oil paintings I wanted to use poetry and lyrics but didn't want the reading process to be too easy so I developed a font that slows it down thereby allowing the eye and mind to linger longer. The combinations of colors, brush strokes, and text was quite spontaneous and intuitive. Like good poetry, the meanings are ambiguous."
Cedric Arnold:
"Chaotic dark room experiments with old film negatives have resulted in strange and sometimes quite comical images. They evoke faded memories and feel as if memory might have ceased to be desirable."
Exhibition runs daily from 1pm to 7pm until this Thursday, September 27 with a special closing party on the same day. Call 081-9029196 for directions.
