Bangkok--4 Apr--KMUTT Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT) in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine and Public Health, HRH Princess Chulabhorn College of Medical Science (PCCMS), Chulabhorn Royal Academy, has launched the new Bachelor of Science Program in Health Data Science (B.S.), in the academic year 2018. The first 30 students have received free scholarships. Dr. Unchalisa Taetragool, lecturer of Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), reveals that over the past few years there is a shortage of human resource in the field of health data science in Thailand. Meanwhile, in global level, data on health is one of the top 3 being analyzed through data science e.g. health care or public health services. There have been uses of artificial intelligence (AI), image analysis and medical information to help diagnose symptoms of patients or improve work processes in hospitals to reduce service time for each patient. Health data scientists collect and analyze in-depth data by using existing information to find correlations for solving problems through mathematical models that predict trends and solutions to problems. The Health Data Science Program is a joint curriculum design of two mentioned institutes. KMUTT focuses on problem-based learning from real databases to provide students knowledge of information science. Meanwhile, PCCMS offers healthcare related knowledge e.g. health, treatment information and hospital information. When graduated, they will become information scientists with an understanding of healthcare. With further studies in other fields e.g. business or finance, they can also pursue different career paths such as in banking, retail or public sector. Other professionals include information scientist, epidemiologist, data analyst, software and information system developers and computer scholars etc. The Health Data Science Program a 4-year undergraduate degree program, accepting students who have graduated from high school on Mathematics and Science study groups on 4th level, Science-Math study path, or a certificate issued by the Ministry of Education equivalent to the science study path. Students mostly study at KMUTT and take some classes that need laboratories or healthcare equipment at PCCMS. The graduates of this program will receive a joint degree from both institutes.
