The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET), jointly with five major partners and three alliances, has announced the winner of the 7th "Crown Diamond in Economics", an annual economic contest for youth, with the team from Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University, winning the gold medal and receiving trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Throughout the past 11 years since this project's inception, over 50,000 students from schools and educational institutions nationwide have been groomed as this project is a platform for contestants to enhance their competency in economics.
SET President Pakorn Peetathawatchai said that Crown Diamond in Economics Contest specifically focuses on enhancing analytical thinking and application of economic theory for practical decision making that will greatly benefit the economy and society. The more the students accumulate these skills, the more quality seeds of economic professionals will contribute to the sustainable growth of the country. This project is one of a number of SET's efforts to instill financial literacy among youth, in line with SET's vision, "To Make the Capital Market 'Work' for Everyone".
Of the 606 contestants from 56 universities joining the contest this year, the winners of the 7th Crown Diamond Economic Contest are as follows:
- Gold medal winner - Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University
The team members consist of Wichsiya Phosrithong, Bhumipisuth Havanond, Win Supanwanid
- Silver medal winner - Faculty of Economics, Chulalongkorn University
The team members consist of Worathep Wongviriyasit, Thanyapon Virulsap, Thanaphat Cheewaarree
- Bronze medal winner - Faculty of Economics, Thammasat University
The team members consist of Wirinratch Kirirak, Sariya Pantuhong, Jidapa Chandhasrisawad
The gold medal winning team received the trophy from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, gold medals, scholarships, certificates as well as scholarships for a study trip abroad to be accompanied by their faculty advisors, altogether worth more than THB 1 million. (Approx. USD 32.300)
The Crown Diamond in Economics contest for university level was organized by SET, together with Romchatra Foundation, Thai Life Assurance Association, Faculty of Economics of Chulalongkorn University, Faculty of Economics of Thammasat University, and Satriwitthaya 2 School. In addition, The Capital Market Development Foundation, Economic Intelligence Center of The Siam Commercial Bank pcl, and President Bakery pcl were co-sponsors.
