Air New Zealand and Tourism New Zealand are jointly offering special packages to be one of the witnesses at the world’s unique Montana World of WearableArt Awards Show (WOW) in September 2005 in Wellington, New Zealand.
Pictures published by the press may tell a thousand words. But these special packages, available just once a year, will dazzle you as one of the bewitched spectators at the live WOW Awards Show. Being hosted in a South Island city of Nelson in the past 17 years, this year the event is moved to Wellington. After an overwhelming success of three young Thai designers in 2004, Air New Zealand now invites Thai people, who are interested in unique works of ‘wearable’ art and garments, to witness WOW 2005 with their own eyes.
The choice of journey varies from fly & stay packages to a self-drive program at your convenience
A 7 Days/ 5 nights Fly & Stay package, starting from only 38,780 Baht, includes a return economy air-ticket to Wellington via either Christchurch or Auckland (passenger must be in Wellington on the first or last day of the package), 5 nights hotel accommodations, and an admission ticket to WOW show.
A 7 Days/ 5 nights Fly, Drive & stay package, starting from only, 43,520 Baht, includes a return economy air-ticket to Wellington via either Christchurch or Auckland (passenger must be in Wellington on the first or last day of the package), 5 nights hotel accommodations, 5 days rental car with your choice of National Car Rental or Hertz Rent a car, and an admission ticket to WOW show.
Since the early beginnings in 1987, the World of WearableArt (hereafter referred to as WOW) Awards has continued to grow and develop into what is now recognized as a world-class iconic event. This original concept was created by Suzie Moncrieff in Nelson, New Zealand.
WOW has now become an exciting and longed-for annual design competition for both Thai designers and those who appreciate the works of art. “Interest in WOW? from Asia has been increasing rapidly, with last year’s entries in the event reaching an unprecedented 13 from Thailand — the highest number from any one country outside New Zealand. The mini-show will include garments designed by Asian entrants,” says Mr. George Hickton, Tourism New Zealand’s Chief Executive.
“WOW? is a real conversation starter and a great New Zealand ‘hook’ for media,” says Mr. Hickton. “People really want to ask questions about it — and one of those is ‘what country could have possibly come up with this event?’ We will also bring some media down to New Zealand to experience the full show in Wellington in September”.
A two-hour theatrical extravaganza will showcase unique WearableArt garments, dance, music, lighting and choreography. Each garment is individually choreographed into a seamless show with no narration or language barriers, creating a universal experience that unfolds before your eyes, touching every sense and evoking a variety of emotions.
”The good news is this year, there are as many as 34 garments from Thailand being submitted to WOW for the pre-selection for staging. While at this stage we don’t know how many Thai entries will be staged at the event, it is very encouraging to see Thai designers’ rising interest”, says Roskamol Vongchowanart, Manager Thailand, Tourism New Zealand. “The winners of each section, as well as the Supreme Award, will be announced on September 23, the first night of the show. Being there will not only help cheer up our Thai designers at WOW 2005, but the package will also let you appreciate New Zealand’s tourism attractions and culture.
