Bangkok--Jul 28--SET
The SET Board of Governors today allocated funds from its 30th Anniversary Charity Fund to build community sport fields in 3 provinces on the southern borders and supply materials for a music library, badminton court, and a community library in Bangkok. The Board had earlier approved using the Fund to develop Chulalongkorn University’s stadium.
Ms. Patareeya Benjapolchai, SET Executive Vice President and the Secretary of the SET Board, announced that the board has approved THB100 mln. (approx. USD2.5 mln.) from this Fund for sports and educational projects for youths and community development. The projects will also take youths away from drugs.
The Fund was first used to develop Chulalongkorn University Stadium, which will be Thailand’s first sports field covered with synthetic turf. This new material will enable greater utilization of the stadium, and renovation is currently underway.
The SET Board today approved additional projects to benefit from the Fund, including supplying the library of Mahidol University’s College of Music with books. This will equip the students and interested members of the public with better resources, hence helping develop musical talents.
Another project approved was the building of sport fields in 3 provinces on the southern border. A total of 10 sports fields in Yala, Pattani, and Narathiwat will be built, so that residents who are currently faced with unrest may meet and play sports. These activities will enable them to relax, both physically and mentally, and help create unity in the communities. These activities will help lessen their problems somewhat.
The Board also approved building a badminton court and a community library. A badminton court will be built for Mahidol University, Salaya Campus, in Nakorn Pathom province, while the ‘Sermpunya’ library will be built in the Khlong Chan community in Bangkok. The badminton court and community library will serve as models for other in-door courts and community libraries to help in community development.
Those projects are ongoing and will benefit youths and communities in line with the objectives of the SET’s 30th Anniversary Charity Fund, established to celebrate the SET’s birthday in April of this year.
