Software Industry Promotion Agency (SIPA) is funding the development of Suriyan, a Linux distribution customized for use as a server in SMEs. System administration is web-based and does not require any Linux skills. Suriyan is optimized to work with Windows clients, as used by virtually all SMEs. By focusing on a specific environment and eliminating flexibility that is unnecessary in that environment, Suriyan is able to provide substantial benefits over traditional, general-purpose Linux distributions.
One of the main goals of Suriyan is to be a platform on top of which ISVs can build commercial solutions; by using a platform free of license costs, ISVs can provide their customers with solutions that have a lower total cost. In addition, Suriyan comes "out of the box" with a broad range of applications that help people in an organization work together more effectively.
